I need a recommends helping others to understand Keto

(Denise) #1

I was on youtube looking for just the right video and was concerned about picking one that wouldn’t boggle someone’s mind, something more understandable for a newcomer.

Could some of you help me pick out maybe a couple of what you think are great videos for someone who truly thinks keto is just another fad diet, or just wants to know more about it?

I love Dr. Bikman, Low carb down under, Diet Doctors but I just need help picking something. I’ll be around if someone can recommend a good “introduction to keto” that you would choose for a new person  There’s probably some for when I started 2 and half years ago, but may be even some newer stuff?? Thanks much, Denise

Some of the early presentations by Dr. Stephen Phiinney on the Low Carb Down Under channel on YouTube were very helpful to me in late 2016 and early 2017, when I was first learning about a ketogenic diet. What I like about his presentations is that they are very well documented with citations from the scholarly literature.

Ok Paul, I’ll look at some of those and see if there’s one I think she’ll understand best  I’ll let you know what I find too  Have a good weekend, maybe see you later, Denise!

Dr David Unwin has a very nice, simple approach and an engaging ‘bedside’ manner.

Okay Peter I will check him out I’ve heard the name maybe heard some of his stuff but I’ll look him up thank you much I’ll let you know what I find from him

There’s lots of short ones from Dr Unwin but the best ones are an hour long, he tells us a great story about a patient shouting at him because he didn’t tell her carbs were bad.

Here’s the video I’m still listening to, I love his voice, very comforting and genuine  Thanks so much Peter, https://youtu.be/QizJhk4DaUY?list=PLwZBGDeIeol9VQdOoW_6g5PV2_UVXCjr9

Awwww He’s a lovely man. As you say, genuine. Very honest. He really wants to help.
I thought you might like him

And another from him.

I’ve bookmarked it, but probably take a listen even though I’m not done the other one  I would give almost anything to have a doctor like Dr. Unwin on my side, amazing really as I always believed such doctors existed but there’s no way I would ever believe this man is not the real deal  Thank you again Peter

PS I meant to ask if he talks about Keto as well as just low carb, or what I mean is, does he have info on higher fats and the proteins as well? I would like to hear what he has to say on the rest of the nutrition  PSS I just found one on youtube, anxious to hear it as well Peter

He tries not to get too techy, I’m sure he knows plenty and does go through the machanics of stuff like insulin.

Hey Peter, @Pjam,

Do you happen to know where online I might fight Dr. Unwin’s chart he had made that showed comparisons of a food like a potatoes, equivalent to how many tsp of sugar? I gotta have that! What an amazing idea because people say to me a lot that “well I don’t really eat a lot of sugar”
One place in that first video he mentioned a potato being the equivalent to 9 teaspoons of sugar. I think I have that right  Denise

Thanks Paul!
I found that site googling, and lots of good info but I couldn’t find a simple chart that just lists a lot of foods by comparing something like bananas for example to the equivalent of sugar. Did you see a chart like that? I imagine it must be a few pages at the least! Not just a chart unless it’s got several pages of foods. Hope I’m being clear on what I’m looking for  Denise

I found this but it’s not so simple for people that don’t even know how to compare glucose to sugar:

I am sure I heard him say that he and another doctor made up some sort of document that compares carbohydrate foods and their actual content of sugar?

This One?

(Denise) #16

Yes, and I found the full list on this site https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/what-is-a-low-carb-lifestyle/dr-unwins-sugar-infographics/ I’m good to go!! thanks so much, I really am very excited about finding Dr. Unwin, loving his videos etc.:heart::heart: Denise

He often gets his wife involved because getting someone to try a new relationship with food may take some psychology and thats his wife area of expertise.
You may find videos featuring her too.

You may have missed it, but the full set of posters is also available at the link I posted.

(Denise) #19

Do you mean the different food group posters Paul like what did he have Bread’s and I don’t remember all the different food groups but there was about five posters I think is that the ones you mean? Sugar infographics?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #20

I believe it’s the complete set. They all look like the chart @Pjam posted a few posts back.
