Hi everyone, I hope over put this in the right place I’m new to the forum and to the diet really. I’ve been doing keto for coming up 6 weeks and I lost 10lbs in the first two weeks but none since , I’ve been doing really well and actually find the diet very easy to do I just wondering if you have any advice on how to break the stall? Thanks in advance ,Fiona x
I need a bit of advice please
First weight loss was water weight, as your body dumped glucose.
Now it’s fat-adapting - you’re not stalling, you’re just switching over.
Make sure you’re eating plenty, and keeping the carbs under 20g. And keep it up.
Hi Fiona
my only real advice is the carbs <20g - being patient, not changing things too much. some days you will feel crappy, other days you’ll be on a high.
I’m now at the 2 month point and feel pretty tremendous, hunger gone, headaches gone, energy up and almost 30 pounds lighter! It sounds wierd all this, but you just have to be patient.
It didn’t hit me until around a month, and then one day I woke up and just felt better. It was like a light switch had turned on in my head. From the start, even during the keto flu, I made sure I got enough water, fiber, tracked my macros, tested my ketone levels (urine - always run moderate to high even in the morning), and exercise daily. I made a point to stay consistent even when I felt like crap.
I know it doesn’t seem like it, but it will get better. The timing is different for everyone. But this diet will work. I promise. And the day that you wake up and feel great you are gonna smile and realize that you made the right choice in sticking with it even when you thought about giving up.
Thank you for your advice it’s much appreciated I’ll definitely keep going , I do feel alot better so that’s something
Thank you teri I appreciate your help. I’ll definitely keep going and look forward to the weight going down at some point
That’s the thing, there’s a lot more happening than just weight loss. Starting with feeling a lot better
You are gonna do awesome because you are dedicated, and are seeking out and have the support of the forum. Knowing there are others out there going through the exact same thing helps a lot. When I first started this place saved me from making so many first timer mistakes. So read all you can and then do your research on that information.
Any issue you have someone can probably help you with, and will be more than happy to. We are all in this together, so don’t be afraid to post any question, no matter how silly or small it seems.
Guys lose weight faster. I’m at 8 weeks and 8lbs. I lost half of that at first and now I’m at about a lb a week. 52lbs in a year is not a bad amount (if you need to lose that much). I get frustrated but I think about it that way.
At 6 weeks into ketosis half of that may be water weight so I would shave the first 5 pounds off as water weight and call it 5 pounds of actual potential fat loss which is good and according to the CDC one or two pounds a week is supposed to be normal and healthy weight loss?
That scale will mess with your head as you see it go up and down so don’t depend on that too much! And also keep potassium, sodium and magnesium levels up!
My scale nightmare: When I first started keto I was using a physicians mechanical scale (pin point accurate) and would watch my weight go up and down like a yo yo all day long! Drop in 1, 5 or 10 pound increments within one or two days but was also intermittent fasting, then panic sets in and I start freaking out (felt fine physically) on the scale numbers (not making any sense to me) and called my doctors office and they told me “that’s impossible” and that they “never seen anything like that” so I start freaking out even more trying to figure out how could my weight drop like that in such a short period of time, but the nurse on the phone also mentioned something about “water weight” then it hit me that, that’s what it was but then scale would start creeping back up because of gained muscle mass…
Why I use tape measure!
Lol
Amazing advice thank you, I’m overwhelmed by the time you’ve all taken out to help me out and I’ll take it all on board
I have to loose that much and more. Only on Keto 1.week. only lost 4 oz!
Documenting everything and staying in macros. Very frustrating
The first losses are water weight as everyone says. So maybe you didn’t have a lot to lose (water, I mean). Everyone has told me that you do a lot of healing at first - which slows things down. I’m also 50 next week - that slows it down. Ah, so many things. But I’m not gaining like I was - and that’s a positive. Have you checked out “Page 4 keto”. It’s a good guideline if you need one.
Thanks. I’m 67 so mayb that also fractures in. I dont need to b in a rush as.long as scale goes down
2 weeks in is definitely not a stall. Be patient as your body goes through many changes. And try not to use the scale too often, once a week is recommended. Our bodies fluctuate in water weight alone as much as 6 pounds either way and one day especially women. Try taking measurements of your upper arm waist hips and thighs. Sometimes the scale doesn’t move but her body begins to change
Hey Fiona, you can break your stall if you create a fat deficit. Eat less fat and your body will be forced to use your stored fat, then you should be in ketosis. Do this until you reach your target weight and then you can return to regular keto. Eat more lean meat and veggies to create a deficit. Contact if you want more suggestions.
