Great, thanks for the link, Bob -I booked marked that, will try it sometime =)
I miss bread
I’ll confess to using low-carb tortillas sometimes. The brand I use has 5 carbs but I know there are other brands (that my store doesn’t carry, of course) that have like 2 or 3.
Not trying to corrupt anybody, and I know gluten can cause inflammation, but I don’t see anything wrong with the occasional one if I can spare the carbs that day.
Susan, if you make this, I recommend putting the meat (which I thought was great) in the middle, along with whatever else you want (such as guacamole, sour cream…) and the chips around the outside. The chips aren’t sturdy enough to survive bring under that. Also, when you put the chips in at the end to crisp them, watch them well. They can go to being overdone quickly.
I miss bread, but I figure I’d miss my fingers and toes more.
I loved tortillas pre-keto, but sadly loved the low carb ones waayyyy too much…definitely wanted more & more, especially if they were lightly charred.
Yeah, I think if I cooked them for a hot dish, I’d probably have the same issue. But I only use mine for tuna wraps and I never eat more than one. I’ve been tempted by the thought of making a second one (after finishing the first) a few times, but I’ve always been too lazy
I DO actually miss bread. I don’t crave it and am not pining away, but I miss the taste and texture for sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. Again, I’m making do without them, but if a good relatively healthy substitute came along I’d be all over it. I have been completely unsatisfied with all of the commercial and homemade substitutes I’ve tried so far. I have not given up; I plan to try peanut flour bread, which I’ve heard great things about, as the next experiment.
I have never heard of peanut flour before! Please share your experiences with it!!!
I thought the keto WOE said to avoid peanuts (legumes). Aren’t they inflammatory? Or high carb? I forget what the issue is…
That would be paleo way of eating. Peanuts can be high in carbs depending on the amount consumed. I don’t know what the ‘defatted’ peanut flour weighs in at.
Yeah, I think the limit is 50 a day. It doesn’t reset at midnight either, it’s a rolling 24 hours. I think admins are allowed more but regular members just get 50. It’s a common lament around here. People run out all the time. You can actually earn badges for using up all your likes, like if you do it 5 times (I think) you’ll get a notification about earning some kind of badge recognizing that you’re “sharing the love” and encouraging the community.
If you run out, and then come across another post you want to “like”, you can just post a
I haven’t bought any yet, but will definitely share once I’ve tried it. There is a gentleman on these forums who has great things to say about it (can’t remember his name offhand). Hopefully he will see this and chime in.
Because of seeing this thread – I got all “I need bread” and purchased Jullian Keto bread from Whole Foods today. You know - you get something in your mind and the anticipation of it is half of the joy. Needless to say - the butter was the best thing about having bread and butter. I’ve been Keto for almost 2 years now and the bread thing is going back to the…leave it alone column. Sticking to real food is the best way to go - except I do love a birthday cake Quest Bar on occasion
The Julian keto bread isn’t good even if you could believe the numbers which I don’t
But I have managed to make a few keto bread recipes and they were edible. Nothing like the magic of France!
