I got hit with super stressful news at work today, on top of how stressful my job is already. So I caved and ate cookies. Now I am kicking myself, especially since I am a sugar addict.
I have been on keto for 11 weeks now. Not totally fat adapted but I was on my way there. How do I fix my mess up?
I thought about fasting tomorrow but I will be at work dealing with all the old stress and the new stress, so just don’t think I can handle fasting on top of it.
I’m already drinking more water and planning on exercising as usual in the morning. What else can I do?
Am I back to square one? I am so afraid I have blown all my progress and hard work.
Am certainly getting lots of extra exercise…kicking myself.
I messed up. Help!
Nope not at square one. Just get right back on your plan. Carry something with you tomorrow if you can’t resist the urge to eat like some nuts, seeds or even a little cheese. Being prepared is half the battle. I keep some pumpkin seeds in my desk for such occasions. Rarely use them but I have a plan. Good luck tomorrow.
Carl and Richard say BACON AND EGGS to start again.
My husband also works in a high stress job. The doctor told him to take B12. He gets a B12 shot regularly plus has sublingual B12, methocobalamin)daily. It is also very important to have Magnesium also. Preferably around bedtime. It will help relax you as well as a good night’s rest. We take magnesium glycinate. Because it doesn’t have quite the laxitive effect. Our doctor recommended magnesium l-threonate for mental clarity.
Bake lots of bacon and take it with you to work. Can sardines, tuna packets, boiled eggs, cheese, lettuce leaves, celery and cream cheese, deli roll ups, etc
You didn’t fail, you learned what triggers you. Now prepare for BATTLE. The victory is yours. You’ll learn your enemy’s tactics and know how to fight.
You’re OK…you might have set things back for a couple of days, but get back on the keto bandwagon and you’ll be back on board in a day or two.
Whenever I mess up (and that usually means binging on cookies with the kids), I find that my hunger comes back with a vengeance too afterwards and fasting would probably be difficult in that case, so it’s straight back to LOTS of keto friendly foods with a bit more emphasis on fats and the hunger demon is quickly quashed.
Thanks all…I was fighting tears over the stress and thinking I had totally blown it. I will take extra foods with me tomorrow to fight this.
The ‘good’ side of the mess up is how physically awful I feel after eating the cookies. I never want to go through that again.
@arenteria - I already take magnesium and b complex. May increase it the next day or two - especially the B vitamins.
This is probably my biggest worry. I was still struggling some with hunger anyway.
Thanks all for the suggestions and encouragement!
Don’t sweat it.
You are 11 weeks in the positive.
It’s just a bump in the road.
You got this.
Keto on!
Life happens, don’t worry too much over it - just learn from it.
Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone learns from them, so decide which you want to be
Honestly though, it’s not the end of the world although I can understand the frustration and worry. All you have to do is get right back on the horse and come prepared next time so you aren’t even a teensy bit tempted. Keto muffins, bacon, seeds, nuts, good quality cheese and sausage… etc. That way you know you’ve got something tasty already waiting for you.
The biggest thing to do though is: Keep Calm and Keto On
Tomorrow is another day!
I messed up today and it was cookies a pop and popcorn. I’m very stressed my mom died a few months ago and I’m not. working so I just gave in. I will be right back on it tomorrow.
