I just joined and love reading peoples’ stories. We all are so much more alike than we are different, no matter race, religion, age, or how much money we do or don’t have.
I am 74 yo and want to live out my (hopefully many) remaining years being vibrant and healthy. I need to lose at least 40 lb, my knees hurt, and I have weakness in my legs, making it hard to sit down and get up without using the chair or table for support.
My hope is that in this WOE I will become stronger and healthier.
I expect to learn a lot from all of you and to also contribute my knowledge/experience.
I like what I am reading!
Welcome!
I hope ketogenic way of eating will give you what you hope.
Oh, yes. There are all kinds of people here and from all over the world. I am norwegian (half canadian ) .
Welcome, Lisad.
Joint pain - I don’t know what the average improvement is, but it’s a fact for a lot of people who begin eating very low-carbohydrate. It helps.
I get a “clean and light” feeling, rather than heavy, swollen, tight, aggravated - knees, shoulders and fingers.
I didn’t see it on keto (alone) but starting carnivore surprisingly changed my arthritis almost immediately.
Both my knees and both my hips have already been replaced, and I have low-grade systemic osteoarthritis pretty much everywhere except the elbows & jaw.
Both of my shoulders were worsening 3-4 years ago so my orthopedic shoulder specialist surgeon was injecting steroids every 4 months, which was working well so surgery was not yet in our plan.
(And should recovery is MUCH worse than knees or hips since your arm is immobilized for 5-6 weeks. Both my hip replacements were ‘outpatient’ and I walked out of the hospital the same day. Even for my double knee, I walked with a single cane early the next morning and was able to trot in less than 10 days.)
My shoulders would start twinging intermittently at about 3 months and by the time I’d make an appointment at the 4 month mark they would both be keeping me awake at night
A week or so before I started carnivore the first twinges occured at about the 3 months per usual, but it was months before I realized that they never hurt again.
Maybe it’s placebo, but no one told me they would stop hurting and my carnivore goals were only for weight loss and general health.
It’s now about a year, 8+ months carnivore, and the pain has not returned.
We were in the surgeon’s office for my wife follow-up to knee surgery with the knee & hip guy when I saw my shoulder doctor and reported this.
The immediate response, without missing a beat, was, "It’s an anti-inflammatory diet."
No one told me that years ago when I was getting the injections regularly. They might have mentioned it.
Welcome! It’s never too late to start to feel better. I hope you notice many non scale victories quickly like more energy and less pain. I have Multiple Myeloma (in remission currently) and have severe peripheral neuropathy in my feet from the chemo and bone pain. Since starting I don’t have trouble getting out of bed. I don’t have to set my alarm clock an hour before getting up to take something so I can hit the floor without wincing. The slow but steady weight loss is a great side effect but feeling like a whole person not distracted by pain is the real reward. Best wishes to you, Lisad.
Welcome! We are glad you are here. I tried eating however I wanted for 44 years and felt tired, sluggish and overweight for many of them. I feel better now than I ever have before. I dont think it is ever too late to start!
I am so happy for you! You must feel like a brand new person!!!
And, a big thanks to all of you kind, welcoming people. I feel so different, like a big load is off my shoulders, having started this woe journey and your welcome messages warm my heart!
Hell, yes, it is.
Carnivore, specifically, reduced inflammatory issues like rosacea, burning sensation in my skin, joint pain and swelling, bleeding gums after flossing, and bolstered my immune system enough that I stopped getting colds and was able to tan naturally in the sun for the first time in my life without burning right away.
Thank you so much, PetaMarie. This is very slow-going for me but I am Keto-ing on! May your health continue to improve!
Hi Lisa, and welcome aboard!
I’d recommend to squats to help build up that nice strength to get up and down fluidly!
They would eventually work for me but I first need to be able to get up and down without holding onto a chair or table. Thanks!
