I have a first date... what to drink?

#21

Nah, I didn’t tell him. But I will if something develops. He lives 1,300 miles away (probably closer to you than me!) so there’s little chance he’s be meeting anyone soon.

(Susan) #22

Hehe okay =). I am sure that he will be happy for you if things go well though.

I love your new pic, very nice. Well, we are all now hoping that the date goes well and waiting eagerly for the report!! If it is not successful, think of this as practice and you are an amazing, lovely, beautiful lady so if not this one, then soon enough! It is a great start either way =)).

Maybe not everything about Keto, eh? I think we need more folks speaking from experience vs. repeating what they hear.

@TimeForMe If you’ve been in Ketosis for more than a month or two, drinking some red wine or distilled spirits most likely won’t knock you out of Ketosis for any significant amount of time. The alcohol gets burned off very quickly.

My go-to is a dry red wine, like a Cabernet. If you’re feeling really spicy Tequila works too! Stay away from all beer. Have fun on your date!

Patrick:

I think many of us were more worried about the alcohol affecting her quickly because of Keto, and because it is a first date, just wanted her to remain herself and focussed so she can evaluate this guy properly to see if he is worthy of a second date. I was thinking of the alcohol more in terms of that then well in terms of how many carbs or calories she was eating. Safety first and also if we are tipsy we don’t think the same as when totally sober was all =).

Keep it simple a glass of white or red wine or if you like harder stuff, vodka soda. White liquor has less carbs than the colored ones like whiskey. The flavorings in vodkas these days can be a problem for some people.

If you haven’t been drinking since on keto, be careful, it can hit you harder than you expect.

Hope you have a nice time.

(Patrick) #26

Understandable. I recommend a trial run before hand!

(Bob M) #27

I’ve had alcohol hit me really hard, but most times, it’s OK. I do try to have something soon, like an appetizer (cheese/charcuterie, high fat soup, chili - hopefully w/o beans, etc.), since they tend to bring the drinks first.

(Marianne) #28

Girrlll, you got this! You will attract him with your beauty and then captivate him with your personality!

:star_struck:

“Back in the day” when I was coming up, I swear, I couldn’t buy a date - and not to be boastful, but I was good looking when I was young. A lot of the dates I did have were with tools. Looking back, I think it was because I was afraid to maintain eye contact with a man or let him know that I was approachable. Met my husband when I was 39 in a greasy spoon on a Monday night at 10PM, and the rest is history.

Have fun!

P.S. I never experienced any ill effects with alcohol on keto, although it was a couple of months before I had a drink. As you say, just sip.

This!

My personal fave. The place we go has splits of it.

Um… anything “but alcohol”. You wouldn’t want this new person to think your a drug user. I mean, I wouldn’t, if it were me. Nor, would I want to be with a drug user myself.

Ask them if they are into healthy living, and do they want to smoke some good green bud

#32

Zero carbs, right?
I’m liking that idea. hehehe

(Cristian Lopez) #33

Dont let my name fool you, I imply that I know everything about keto from a scientific and research based standpoint + experience. Ive been doing keto for 4 years, I even go to conventions yearly about it. My diet now isnt like it was when I started but it was through research, maturing, and becoming a seeker of answers rather than a preacher of beliefs. In fact I dont just specialize on keto, but rather a complete biological/physiological understanding of nutrition.

I just looked through their Happy Hour menu. They have Chile Dusted Tenderloin Medallions, which looks pretty good. 12 total carbs for the dish. I may order that with my drink.

@TimeForMe You’ve already gotten a ton of replies, and many people have already cautioned how alcohol may affect you more harshly now being keto. I just wanted to drive this point home extra hard.
A couple years ago I went out for a drink. I’m not a drinker but historically might have about one drink annually and usually in the context of dinner like a shared margarita at a Mexican restaurant. Anyway, I was keto and fat adapted and felt great. I ordered a lemon drop martini which is something I had before on a number of occasions from this same place and knew how it usually affected me. This time though it hit me HARD. It hit me so hard that before I was half way through I thought it had been drugged. I retraced the entire lifespan of the drink and there was no way anyone could have slipped anything into it. It never left my sight. It was made at the bar which we were sitting at. It tasted the same as normal, not any stronger. I believe it was actually my being keto for the reason it hit me so hard. I only had HALF of it and wasn’t able to get myself home safely!!! So yes, sip slowly! And enjoy!

I personally find I can’t get enough to eat when I go out to eat. For instance, those look good, but unless I pair that with a steak 16+ ounces or greater or at least a hamburger 8+ ounces or greater, I’ll be hungry afterwards (and even the hamburger won’t be enough). One thing I’ve learned is not to order fish, as you’ll be lucky to get 6 ounces. When I go on vacation, I take extra meat with me because of this.

You might be different, though, and get filled up with that type of food.

A case on point. We had people come over for burgers cooked sous vide and hot dogs for the kids. The burgers were 6 ounces or 8 ounces. I ate them on lettuce, with onions, tomatoes, pickles, mustard, cheese. I had 3 or 4 burgers and at least 2 hot dogs. I can’t remember whether that was my one meal of the day or not. Regardless, the people were a bit freaked out. They just watched me “clog my arteries” and eat more than they eat in an entire day, most likely.

You might not want to do this. :slightly_smiling_face:

(Susan) #37

Or pre-eat at home so your tummy is full =) and then have a drink there, and sip slowly. You could always ask for a glass of water as well, and alternate the two drinks =).

('Jackie P') #38

Haha, I had to laugh at the thought of @TimeForMe on a first date ordering every lump of meat on the menu whilst delicately sipping a glass of wine :joy::joy::rofl::rofl:
Mind you, some men might like that kind of thing.!

(Susan) #39

Instead of the entire --“I can drink you under the table” it can be “I can eat more meat than you” competition, hehe.

(Patrick) #40

I’m sure you mean well, but that’s a ridiculous implication. I only say that because social feedback is important. You’ll find that the closer a person is to an “expert” in a certain subject, the more they realize how little they actually know, and how many unanswered questions there are.

In my experience, the only people that claim to know everything, are the ones that know very little.
