I gained 4kgs in 3 weeks

I started keto 3.5 weeks ago and keep putting on weight.

I am 158cm, female, with a start weight of 88kg. I now weigh 91.5kg.

I don’t restrict calories, but make sure not to overeat. I eat btw 1700-2200 calories on average.

I restrict my carbs to 15-25 net carbs, and my protein intake is max 20% of total food consumption. I mostly eat fish, some pork, and occasionally chicken and beef.

I wondered whether I wasn’t getting enough healthy fats so for the past few days, I have been drinking bulletproof in mornings and eating fat bombs.

I also wondered if I wasn’t in ketoses yet, but the perfect keto sticks suggest I am - although moderately. I am however quite hungry on the keto diet.

I am quite baffled and - given I am determined to loose the baby weight - now starting to wonder if keto is the right match for me.

I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong.

For me, weight gain indicates I’m eating too many calories, whether I’m in ketosis or not. Ketosis doesn’t automatically equate to weight loss; one can gain weight while in ketosis if too many calories are consumed. Have you tried tracking your food intake? That helps me. I’ve gained in ketosis also, but I don’t gain when I keep my calories in a range that works for me. I hope that helps.

How are you tracking your macros, an app, writing it down? Can you give an example of what you are eating daily, including your butter/oil/condiments/artificial sweeteners, etc.

When starting out you should probably stay away from fat bombs and butter coffee.
Save those for after you are really fat adapted and can handle them well.
Your body is converting to fat burning for 6+ weeks so weight gain is not unusual while adjusting depending on where you came from diet wise.
If you came to this very insulin resistant - lots of your incoming calories (regardless of source) are going to get stored.
It just takes time adjust but you want to adjust to a position of strength (a fat burning machine).

Like @Ashlee said, count me as another women for whom calories matter. I can definitely gain weight while being in (measured) ketosis. I didn’t track calories or macros because I found it tedious. Instead, I measured blood glucose and used it as a proxy for insulin. If my BG was low, chances are my insulin was low. If my insulin was low, chances are I was losing weight.
