I used to hate bones in meat. It was disgusting to me. I couldn’t eat a chicken leg, or chicken breast if it was still attached to the bone, ribs were off the menu, and forget steak if it wasn’t boneless… but now I couldn’t care less. I will eat meat straight off the bone because MEAT AND FAT AND JUICINESS. The cravings for these foods have taken over any weird hang ups I had over the way it was processed and served.
It’s so odd how our brain and body can convince us of irrational stuff (like bones being gross), and then when we rely on that to live it just switches off. The human body never ceases to amaze me.
I can’t be the only one who used to hate bones
Still hate them. I hate being reminded of what I’m eating. I was a vegetarian at one point but I continually gained weight and it wasn’t a healthy way of eating for me.
It’s funny you say that. I was very anemic years ago (before Multiple Myeloma diagnosis) and craved bones even though I didn’t even eat a lot of meat. I’d buy chicken breasts and wings from a chicken place and pull the meat off and eat the bones, then the skin, THEN the meat. (They’re smaller and easier to chew up in the breast and wing)
chicken and fish bones are definitely annoying and put me off… I’d take a pork loin steak over a pork chop any day !
There is something just primal and exhilarating about knawing those last few bites of steak off the bone.
My foodie wife taught me that, while cooking, bones better distribute the heat internally, which means a better-cooked serving. Now I much prefer meat with the bone in. Boneless meat always has that “kid-friendly” ding to it now.
You are in my universe. Bones, build a good body. Loved chewing on them even as a toddler according to my mom. Love my bone broths too. Best tasting meat is near the bones.
Someone mentioned ribs…
Wierdly, ribs dont have the same effect on me, infact, there are some ribs that almost have semi-edible parts of their bones which I will happily crunch through!
I’ve always loved bones in my meat, especially steaks. The meat nearest the bone is often the most tender and juicy but I can understand people who might be squeamish about them. If I am out at restaurant and I ordered a tbone, I do my best not to let people see me knawing on the meat stuck to the bone. It doesn’t always work out that way though.
When I was little I use to break the chicken bones in half and suck the marrow out of the bones! (still do that)
I like to roast chicken wings in the oven and eat the entire bones (yes you can do that)! Mmmm!
Keto has opened my eyes to so many things. Never would I have imagined a chicken bone eating spacebunny.
I am feeling you on this. And I have felt this in other areas of my life since beginning keto as well. It’s as if I feel completely in tune with my body.
For instance the other day I was running with my dog, and this is going to sound so silly, but we were in pace with one another perfectly and I was in the zone and just felt powerful and like my body was working the way it should. And I imagined that if we were in nature that she and I would be able to hunt together because we just clicked. Like we are both carnivores, and just got one another in that moment. It was ridiculous, but it felt great.
I would call this a NSV! (Non scale victory )
Never been an issue for me but I’ve known several people over the years who say they can’t eat meat off bones. Never understood it.
