I am very happy and doing my best and I feel like my hard work is paying off
I am down 11 pounds in 14 days -- is this normal for beginners?
Yes. But,it’s due to water weight loss as you deplete your glycogen. Once glycogen depletes you burn fat. A reasonable rate of fat loss is a pound or so per week, averaged over time. Weight swings due to water retention is common and easily hides fat loss.
Don’t weigh yourself again for at least a month. The best way to track progress right now it to take measurements, and a complete set of full body pictures.
It’s normal for some but the majority is water weight. You want to slow down - and you likely will - and burn fat. Some people do lose faster than others I’m 50. I lost 7lbs in two weeks and now 16-17 in 4 months. Slow and steady.
I took pictures huge difference omg I am doing a documentary on how my body changes on keto so I all weigh in and do body fat every 7 days
You are definitely on the right path Ivy. As long as you are not hungry and feeling good, keep doing what you are doing.
Highly doubtful. I’m not saying you didn’t lose any, but glycogen depletion is the necessary first step to becoming lipolytic. You’ll be losing fat now, within the backdrop.of water flux that will probably result in a non linear loss. How did you measure fat loss? Was it with one of those scales or an impedance meter? If so, their accuracy is highly questionable. IMO you should weigh yourself at most once every week or two.
The important thing is that you’re on your way.
Congratulations!
Everyone experiences those first two weeks a little differently. Some people may not see the scale budge, some do so both examples are “normal”. Keep up the hard work and good luck with your documentary.
That is a lot.
If you have a lot to lose and/or you weren’t on any particular diet before, those numbers are fine (i.e. if you are near your goal weight - a big drop would be strange - if you came from a low carb or Carnivore diet - a big drop would be strange).
The only other thing I would suggest is to check in with yourself on your eating.
If you are excited and overdo it, you might end up calorie restricting - which also results in a quick large drop.
Hi there I have no clue what’s doubtful . Yes I know the scale can be questionable for fat . But here we are a week later and I have lost 15. 8 pounds . I take pictures once a week . Thanks for your imput . I was wearing a size 16 and now I am in a size 14 . Before having my 5 children I was a size 8 . 2 years ago I had twins . I know what it’s like to workout and lose weight being so I have done it PLENTY of time . However I have never done keto and saw such a dramatic weight loss in less than a month . Enjoy ur day
I don’t calorie restrict I only worry about the other numbers but I never go over my calories anyway and I am never hungry
THANK YOU I APPRECIATE YOUR KIND WORDS … means a lot this isn’t easy at all for me
You are off to a GREAT start!
Don’t get discouraged if you stop losing for a couple of weeks - that is normal and even a term for it PISS - Post Induction Stall Syndrome.
It’s very common after a large initial drop as your body takes a step back and decides to hold onto your fat even though you are eating the same as when you dropped a lot of weight.
Or maybe not - good luck either way!
Hi Ivy. I think it’s somewhat normal for beginners, and of course the exact numbers of pounds will vary. It also matters what you ate in the last couple days before starting to eat ketogenically. I can eat a whole lot of salty foods and gain 10 lbs in a day (easy).
It’s a big change for almost everybody - eating a lot less processed foods and much better, overall. Enjoy your good results, and be ready to be patient later on - most of us have some really trying times where weight loss slows down.
Thank you I really struggle with cravings it’s really bad I have never craved for bad stuff so much before on any other meal plan
There is a period of adjustment - weeks and months, really. It does get easier! Not everybody is the same as far as protein and fat, but between the two of them most people can get well satisfied. We need something fairly easy and simple, and it can be that way.
