Im new to keto, i have been reading that you should not be hungry but i do not feel that i am getting enough. I
I had more food and felt more satisfied after meals when i was eating 1300 calories per day on calorie restriction. Am i doing something wrong? I eat now 1700-1800 calories per day on keto. Net carbs 20g, protein 110g and fat 136. Im a 26 year old man, 188cm and 180kg
Hungry and not satisfied
It’s not uncommon when just getting started to experience more hunger. Eat till you are satiated and don’t worry too much about the calories at this point. Once you get converted from being a sugar-burner, your hunger will likely go back down on it’s own.
On a side note, at 180kg (396lbs), 1300 … 1700-1800 calories is not enough. I started off at 185kg (407 lbs) and using “bro-science” (as this was in 2003), I was eating 2000+ calories a day. As I said eariler … Just make sure to eat till you are satisfied and don’t focus so much on the number of calories at this point.
Welcome to the forum, Ketoman.
If you are still hungry on Keto, you are not eating enough, I agree with @Jody22 above.
Just focus on keeping the carbs at 20 grams or less and fill up on your proteins and healthy fats at this point, and your body will adjust and you will be feeling full and losing weight in no time =).
Thanks, i will do that. And @jody22 if i may ask, how much weight dis you lose the first couple of month.
In early june im going on vacation and i wanted to aim for 140kg by that time to make my flights and exploring a little more comfortable. Is that an unrealistic goal?
Eat more then. It’s the beginning, your body may be confused, it’s a new thing… Some people barely eat as they are still satiated all the time, others are hungry and eat just like on a carbier diet despite carbs make them hungry and less carbs satiate them more (I was that. fat adaptation changed my hunger and satiation and even less carbs, not simple ketosis)… Almost everything is normal, we are different.
You wrote you had more food before. You can add volume if it’s important for you. You don’t need to eat very fatty meat and cheese and other dense food only. You can eat much fiber, I did that on keto though it doesn’t matter for my satiation. Choose other food if you feel you eat too much but in the beginning it’s perfectly fine and advisable just eating when you are hungry.
I admit I couldn’t eat only 1800 kcal on keto in the beginning and I weighed 69kg and was a short, not active woman… What’s wrong with more? Are you sure your metabolism is so slow that you can’t allow it? Well, metabolism easily changes, you just did a probably very good step… I don’t know when you ate 1300 kcal but if that was recently, maybe you badly need some higher calorie days. Maybe not due to your plentiful fat reserves so you may get away with a huge calorie deficit but who knows?
I would get used to keto and not worrying about numbers so much. If you see you need to change something, you can do that later. Change something now if you feel unwell but being hungry? Just eat more. It’s not like you eat much now.
I was dropping about 20lbs a month for the first couple of months. Overall, it took me about 16 months to lose over 1/2 my body weight.
