Hunger - It's back

Hunger… its back.
I’ve been doing keto for close to 6 months, with great success. (size 18-20 down to size 6/8. Yay me!)*
I’m within an inch of my goal weight. and was happily doing omd with occasionally fasting for 48- 72 hours, which I could do because I was pretty much never very hungry. All of a sudden I’m hungry again. I am eating within my macros…so its not a carb thing. I try to eat extra fat but it doesn’t help much. I’m not sure what to do now. Do I eat when I’m hungry (back to 3 meals a day)… or do I do my best to stick to the omd.

Honestly would like to be back to OMD, l think maintenance would be so much easier this way.
Advice?
Btw… age 61

Everyone is different, but I’ve had my best results really listening to hunger signals from my body – some days that means OMAD and some days three meals with a snack. As long as I’m drinking plenty of water, making sure I’m taking in enough electrolytes, getting enough sleep, etc, I figure my body will mostly tell me what it needs. Other than something like a planned fast, I personally prefer this more intuitive way of eating to strict adherence to specific guidelines re: eating windows, daily calorie allowance, etc. Some of my biggest periods of weight loss have actually been after a few days of higher-than-usual calorie consumption, which surprised me.

If you find that the hunger persists as your new baseline for weeks rather than days even after eating as much as your body wants, I’d suggest maybe seeing your doctor, just to make sure it’s not related to an underlying medical issue.

Eat when hungry, unless you’re actually fasting deliberately. If your body is asking for food, listen to it.

I’m in the same boat with what Shortstuff said!
Hunger is a sign of good health, in my opinion anyway.

Thank you, just what I needed to hear. listen to my body. The next level of this keto experience.

And for me ( like others do too )
Can’t say enough about salt!
I take a quick pinch of pink salt when the above happens
More times than none …my hunger is just a temporary false alarm
It’s a tummy gurgling nudge or a SOUND…aka listening literally to my body signals

Then it’s right back to fasting!!
One day at a time

Good Luck

I’m in my 50’s, around 10ish lbs from goak (or wherever/ whenever it stops!), and I have been hungrier also. I have increased fat and protein both, but especially addicted to meats, since they are quick, easy, portable, and don’t seem to end up changing the scale. And they keep me satisfied longer. That’s me though.

Thank you for the salt reminder.

I’ve been going through an inexplicably hungry phase the last 3 days. I often have a day here or there where I’m hungrier than usual but this is weird & just a bit irritating as I can find no reasonable explanation. For now I’m just going to feed the beast & hope it passes soon!

I relaxed and chose to eat when I’m hungry, making sure it was a substantial keto meal(s), Now I’m back to my omd. To my delight, I even lost 1/2 inch in my hunger period.
What was interesting to me, was the panic I felt. In the past, with other diets , giving into my hunger was falling off the wagon, yo-yo-ing back up, the first step to weight gain. I look forward to befriending my body and listening confidently to its signals.
Lack of sleep and of electrolytes depletion don’t always give clear signals, thanks for the reminder to pay attention to those two things.
Great to have this forum to come to.

Well I solved the mystery of my 3 day hunger streak - seems I was coming down with/fighting off a common cold  It’s a fairly half-arsed cold & I’m stoked to have found the cause so all in all I’m counting it as a win!
