Hunger & cravings

(Dawn) #1

HELP!! I have had a hard time for the past 10 days. I haven’t lost anything, and when I fast (typically 18 to 20 hrs) I feel really hungry. I’ve been craving deserts. Not sure why but KETO was much easier a few weeks ago. I cut out all dairy (milk, heavy cream, butter and cheese) due to a lactose intolerance, which was causing Rheumatoid Arthritis flareups. So I’m wondering if limited fat intake is making it harder for me to lose weight. I’ve been having the hardest time getting macros right since I can only eat avocado, mayonnaise, nuts and oils. On a positive note, my joints are feeling much better. Is it time to do a 32 hour fast? I worry that I wont be successful since I’m already hungry at 8am.

Hoping some of you advanced dieters can help.

You really don’t want to force yourself to fast. It should come naturally when you’re well fat adapted & your appetite is suppressed.

So if I’m that hungry I should eat? I guess I am NOT fat adapted, because I had a big meal tonight, and I’m feeling hungry now. Argh. I was doing so well.

Ok, I’ll eat earlier tomorrow if my body wants food.

Yeah - appetites will wax & wane so if you’re truly hungry I think you should eat. Having said that, some people find that too little sodium in the diet can increase hunger so it might be worth trying to add more salt - I put a pinch in my coffee between meals. Also make sure that the meat you’re eating is good & fatty & that you eat good sized meals when you do eat. I’m sure it’ll pass :slightly_smiling_face:

Are you fat adopted?

I think extended fast will help

first and second day can be difficult.

third day much easier

If you feel like you aren’t getting enough fat that might contribute to your hunger. Can you have butter or ghee? Some people who can’t eat other dairy can eat butter or especially ghee. Add bacon fat or coconut oil to your cooking?

#7

are you trying to do this without animal fats, some pork belly or some ossobuco would go a long way

(Natasha) #8

You could try adding in some non-dairy fats: coconut oil/talllow/fatty cuts of meat etc. Good luck!

If you’re trying to get your fat out of these is it possible you’re eating more carbs than intended and this is lending to cravings and hunger?

How about meat and eggs?

(Allie) #10

I agree with @Natasha. You can’t just stop consuming all that dairy without substituting other sorts of fat.

Sounds like eggs would be a good choice. Hard boiled eggs with a little mayo would be an easy addition.

Thanks everyone. I was able to get back on track with your help. I lost 8 pounds from Nov. to February, after a bit of tweaking. I’ve hit another plateau, so I’ll just take your same advice and wait for things to reset.
