How to increase your swim pace by 20%

(Duncan Kerridge) #1

Been swimming for about 18 months in the same 20m pool. 50/60 lengths each time. Been trying hard to get my 100m pace down under 2 minutes. On Friday I was chatting to another swimmer - turns out the 20m pool is actually a 25m pool.

So I’ve been under 2 min / 100m for a while. Idiot.

Here’s a before and after…

Ever use these? Besides increasing speed, they give you a great upper body workout. Just start out slower with them, you can give yourself muscle strains at first if you don’t.

Duncan  - one of those crazy, hilarious things in life. But hey - be glad the true length wasn’t less than 20.

I’d get strange looks I think if I turned up in those - i still have plenty of fitness to go before i’m running at max effort and start looking around for more resistance I think.

I have dodgy arthritic wrists and I use these gloves. You quickly realise no-one notices in the pool. Definitely gives a good arm/shoulder exercise which is great for me as I’m not able to do too many heavy weights.
