Flabby arms, inner thighs, creepy skin. doing this since Nov 13, gone is 20lbs and need 10 more gone, but flab is awful. I am 66 female, any suggestions? I am not an exerciser.
How to get rid of flabby arms/legs?
Even a little light weight training will help. I’m the biggest avoider of exercise you will ever meet, but weight training, walking with a destination and Yoga I’ve enjoyed. Also, you could start fasting to see the benefits of autophagy (hit the search engine with that; I’m sure there’s quite a bit of info in the fasting section , but GIYF (google is your friend) as well.
I’m finally starting to see some flabby, creepy skin myself.
In some sense, I see it as non-scale signs of progress.
A good thing since my “scale” signs seem to have stalled a bit.
Fasting is in order to address both of these problems (for me, at least).
I typically fast from 5p to noon, protein shake, then a meal later. Thank you Candy
I have read that flab, especially when you’re older lol, is a toughie
I’ve been using a few phone apps which take you from a 0 to 100+ squats and/or push ups over 8 weeks. 3 weeks in and there have already been dramatic changes in my tone.
You have to fast an extended period for autophagy to kick in. It’s (very simplistically) the body “eating” all your old flabby cells in order to generate new ones.
It (should) also help break through whatever insulin barrier is keeping my weight fairly steady.
Being that you’ve only been doing this since November, try to give yourself time - and suspend time. It took many years of habits and chronological aging to be in the place of wanting to do something about it, and the body is doing a lot you can’t see.
The concept of the “last 10 pounds” is often a misnomer - as when the fat recomposes, you may also be adding muscle and the scale might not change at all.
Also check out possibly incorporating a capsule of Ginger powder twice a day - it’s one of the most economical superfoods that has been plentifully researched. It reduces cortisol, and speeds belly fat recomposition (due to belly fat having certain hormonal factors) - as well as enhances general circulation of fluids in the body. Being that all fat cells swap out fat for water as they prepare to shrink, enhanced fluid circulation is very helpful (especially for those that aren’t doing weekly strength training).
Ginger also lowers insulin, which possibly makes it even okay to take whilst fasting (less than one carb per capsule). It suppresses appetite, and delivers anti-inflammation elimination of aches & pains. Another thing it does is increase enyzmatic digestive power, and enhances circulation throughout the entire body. This is a significant part of why traditional Asian & North African elders tend to be spritely and radiant. Many cultures in those regions consider Ginger a special ally of elders, great for making the body as healthy as possible (as long as one stays away from the industrial foods!) and as comfortable as possible.
Am only 52, have been keto since early last summer. Have been self-experimenting with Ginger consistently for a month, and definitely (to my delight, because body recomposition is great proof of inner changes too) experiencing a speeding up of the watery phase of the fat cell change in the recomposition in the belly, arms, and jowls
If Autophagy does all that, do we have any pics of 60 year olds that look 30? Exercise will tone, but surgery is probably the only option if its bad.
I believe that is what caused the flabby on thighs, lipo many many years ago…
Some people swear by dry brushing to reduce and firm up the stretching. I wouldn’t over do it though, it could make you sore. I use a very firm shower scrubby on my loose bits in the shower, and have noticed a difference on it healing stretch marks. Only get rough on them once a week though.
I’ve heard good things about collagen. Never used it though. Are/were you a smoker?
I’ve never fasted more than 48 hours at a time, and the 10 inches from around my waist reduced in about 6-8 months without hanging skin. But most days I’m doing OMAD or 16:8 fasting.
I have a blaster, I started using it again! Does no good sittin there lol Thank you!
I want to try that. Is there a difference between ginger powder and ginger root powder? Which one would be better?
I have not smoked in 25 yrs! Best thing I ever did was to quit. I’ll have to look up collagen, thank you!
Dr Cate in Deep Nutrition had a lot to say about skin health and how it ages. Another reason I recommend it!
Not according to Dr. Phinney and Dr. Fung, both of whom have stated that their patients lose the excess skin and don’t require surgery - I heard both of them speak of it in recorded talks in recent months, not sure if it’s either of their books.
They’re the same, ginger rhizome root is what’s eaten and used for medicine. The rest of the ginger plant is used for floral arrangement throughout south Asia and in some upscale western floral shops
Any company that is standardized/GMP certified should be a good source. I buy from a high quality company “Nature’s Way” (available at the Natural Grocer’s stores and some drugstores, as well as online). 120 caps for $8, what a deal!
