How much water does everyone drink in a day?

(Jerrett Scott) #1

I drink at least a gallon of water a day easily, but at times (especially at work) I sometimes drink up to 2 gallons. Anyone see a problem with this? Thanks!!!

Nope

Not to be a smart Alec, but… as much as I want.

Seriously, I don’t drink if I’m not thirsty and if I’m thirsty, I drink.

Some days, I’m quite sure I drink way more than others. On quiet days when I spend more time indoors not doing anything much strenuous, I know I don’t drink a lot. Other days, when I’m outside working (physically, we have several acres to take care of and gardening and lawn season is starting up), I know I drink quite a bit. Still, it’s a matter if thirst.

Yep, shouldn’t be a problem. I used to drink about 2 gallons a day years ago when I was a gym rat.

I’m usually trying to get about 5.5-6.5 litres a day now (about a gallon and a half) - pressing to lose weight, so if I don’t get enough water, I don’t lose.

I don’t usually track - but would guess at least 3-4 litres along with tea and coffee. I drink when thirsty, some days are more than others.

Average day for me is 60 ounces water, 12-24 ounces hot tea ( peppermint particularly ) & 24-36 ounces coffee. Two gallons doesn’t sound like too much to me. My grandmother, on the other hand, actually ended up in the hospital once from water intoxication. Scary stuff.

I usually drink between a gallon and a gallon and a half. But I don’t force it. I just drink when I want to.

Good for you! My goal is to get up to a gallon!!
I realized that the leg cramps I was having had more to do with being dehydrated than with supplement deficiency (i.e. magnesium). It takes some doing to train yourself to drink that much - it’s also kind of a hassle – but worth it!

I have coffee or water next to me all day…always been that way. Has to be a couple gallons a day I would guess.

I drink when thirsty.

Dr. Tim Noakes has spoken on this subject.

About 10 glasses worth (8 oz) on non walk days. Walk days which are any distance from 5-14 miles it can be two or four more glasses.

Darker urine tells me that I should be drinking more water. If I’m not sweating, might just be a cup or two of black coffee and one cup or regular ‘bottle’ later.

I drink a minimum of 130 ounces of water a day. That’s half my weight number (260lbs) in ounces. If I don’t, I wake up with raging headaches. Even coming in at 110oz will land me with a headache for hours.

But I am always thirsty, so it’s usually more.

about 2.5 liters

about 10 glasses

always thirty no matter how much I drink

I would say that it is a problem if you are not thirsty and forcing yourself to drink some predetermine amount. If you are drinking that much because you are thirsty than it’s fine.

It’s ironic that Professor Noakes was one of the first researchers to speak about the need for proper hydration for athletes, and now he needs to warn us against over-hydration. :frowning:

I aim for about half my weight in ounces. So for me, that’s about 90 ounces of liquids in a day…not just water though.

8 in the morning with supplements
64 while sitting at my desk
8 in the evening with my nighttime pill.
Somedays I get more at work. Sometimes less. In 32 oz increments.

Thank you all!!!
