Yes, exactly! I didn’t want to write all that out. Thanks for clarifying in my laziness!
How long can you fast without harm?
Well, I broke my fast with spinach and an egg. It went well I thought. It didn’t take long after for a bowel movement. It was alot larger than I thought it could’ve been, not sure why, any thoughts?- but my stomach didn’t stay in distress for hours, like I have read from some who broke a fast. Thanks everyone!!!
I’ve noticed this too. My guess is waste products left in the sleepy digestive system during the fast as well as by products of metabolic breakdown.
Well, the doctor didn’t like me fasting so long, but my A1C was 4.8 from a 7.0 back in February. I will let you know the rest of my results, when I get them. The nurse said it takes 3 or 4 days
Please update us. Regardless of the results I’m awed by your efforts and rooting for your ongoing success. Hopefully you won’t be discouraged by the post fast rebound when your muscles refill with glycogen and your digestive system refills too. And I hope you enjoy your well earned refeed/feasting period without losing your spirit to achieve your long term goals.
Doctor office hasn’t called me yet for some reason, maybe Memorial day? If I don’t hear from them tomorrow, I plan on calling Monday.
No I expected weight gain, and I did gain 10 lbs back, but I have dropped a pound this week. I’m not giving up! This is for life!!! Thanks for your intrest and support!!!
Well the doctor’s office never called today. I will go in on Monday, and hopefully get the results unless they force me to make an appointment to see the doctor to discuss the results on another day. I am scheduled for a DEXA scan on Tuesday though. I am starting a new n=1 experiment. I have never tested my ketones, but I always test my blood glucose. I plan on getting a DEXA scan every three months, and log on a spreadsheet everything I eat and drink. I will be eating exclusively at home, and this time I am taking measurements and weighing and weekly pictures. My experiment will be fasting on the days I work (3 days one week, and 4 days the next) and eat OMAD on the days that I’m off. Still taking vitamins and Keto-aide. I’ll post on Tuesdays. And Tuesday, June the 5 will be my start. Thanks everyone again for your intrest, help and encouragement!!!
Ok, the doctor said I have gout!!! High uric acid… Any clue as to why? The doctor wasn’t very helpful… gonna try and find another doctor. I have NO pain. The nurse came in, ( I thought the doctor was going to come back) the nurse told me everything looked good. The gout, she said was possibly from eating too much meat… so is this a problem of the Keto diet? Could eating too much spinach cause this maybe? Any thoughts?
Jerrett, I noticed that uric acid level. Very well could just be from the fat you’ve been burning. If you’ve never had gout nor the painful symptoms of it, then nothing to get too worried about for now, I’d say - it’s quite normal to get elevated uric acid levels from longer fasts.

Some of us also just run higher uric acid levels on average, without harmful symptoms.
Whatever you do, don’t ignore the elevated uric acid level completely - it is just more data. Feeling no pain is not necessarily telling of anything. If you reach levels that do create crystals in your joints - you will have pain in some joints (big-time pain, the Hulk stepping on your foot pain).
Armed with this knowledge you can make better decisions.
If:
- You just lost your job and
- Your spouse wants a divorce and
- One of your relatives passes away and
- You have just been evicted
Then:
- Do not start a fast
Megan Ramos calls this out - they notice at the IDM program that people that start fasting (yet another stress on the body) sometimes have trouble with their gout.
So, even if you have higher uric acid levels due to a positive dietary change, you still might want to watch out for certain foods that would elevate it more unnecessarily because - add some stress - and ouch!
