How did I do? Can't tell if the weigh in was good?

So im a little unsure of what kind of expectation to have regarding weigh in.

So starting weight was 265.8 (this was the weight i got up to during many failed re-starts)
Been Keto solid for 46 Days…
Today Weigh in
249.0

So is this good for that time frame? Or should i expect less? more?

EVERYONE loses weight at different rates. Women typically slower than men. I think the question is how do you feel about your size and health? I’ve only lost about 10 lbs in three months but I’ve lost dress sizes and experience so many of the non scale victories. I think your weightloss is great!

Heather, meet another one of my favourite thinkers on this forum.

Thanks! I used to be angry that no matter how small I got I always weighed more than my peers. My mother calls it “big boned”. I call it “lead boned”. I played every sport as my body developed. I was a swimmer doing the butterfly at age 13. No amount of diet or exercise will ever make me a small, thin muscled woman. That’s why I hate the scale, it doesn’t tell the truth for my body type (and I think for many other people too.)

Ahh… swimmer here too… ex competitive freestyle…
Yah im beginning to think broad shoulders will be with me and thick legs will be with me forever!

Probably and me too. I just look for silver linings like all the better to run from a serial killer with!

So was that pounds, kilos, or stone?

(Heather Meyer) #8

pounds

Ok - so an average of 2.55 pounds per week. That seems to be on the high side of good. Just stick to it and quit trying to find every possible way of still eating sweets and you should be fine from here on.

Yeah it’s pretty much biologically impossible, except under extreme duress, to lose more than 2lbs of fat per week. Unless someone is over 300lbs, after the first month I say the realistic amount to aim for is about 0.5-1lb per week, with the understanding that 1) fluctuations are going to happen; 2) Shark Week doesn’t count; 3) the closer to your ideal body weight you are, the slower the loss will become.

All in all, you seem to be right on track.

Spoken like a true guy lol…
Ive come to notice per observation that guys seem to struggle with staying away from salty snacks while gals seem to struggle with staying away from sweets… possible hormonal cause?

Regardless…im working on it…

My dad would probably implode if someone took away his nightly sweets. Same with my housemate who is trying to stop eating sweets at night and who I found cooking an omelette at 9 pm last night because he didn’t have his sweets.

I dunno - according to my genetic profile I have a preference for sweet over salty. That was certainly true when I was regularly overeating. Donuts or cookies were much more a food of choice over chips (I think you folks call them crisps) and crackers for me.

So much so, that I knew the only way I could really be successful with this long term was to completely cut out the taste of sweetness altogether. So I quit sugar and all artificial sweeteners all at the same time, right when I started.

It was tough the first couple of months but I am now to where the memory of sweets has faded enough to where I don’t feel cravings for them. But I treat them like an addictive drug and, whether it is really required or not, I will not even take a taste.

My husband is the sweet tooth in this house - that’s why he’s low carb but not keto. He cannot give up fruit.

I doubt a preference for sweets has anything to do with gender and little with genetics, it’s probably just plain ol’ addiction. I don’t crave diet soda because I’m descended from Northern Europeans, it’s because Coke and Pepsi got me hooked on the regular stuff from childhood.

(Heather Meyer) #17

Nope…we call them chips in Canada… at least the Southern half do.
I think it would be impossible… i “might” survive without actual sweets BUT cutting out sweetner in my tea is a fate worse than Death.

I think there has to be some kind of hormonal differences though in cravings.
Ive experienced and heard from other women that they tend to crave either savoury or sweet depending where they are in their cycle.
Personally i fluctuate…

Beginning of monthly cycle after PMS i crave salty.
Stays salty until right before ovulation
Ovulation i crave sweets like its going out of style.
On the flipside of ovulation im craving salty again
A week prior to PMS i begin to crave sweet
In the height of PMS i crave meat and savoury.

Ask other women…i think there is a connection between hormones and cravings for salty and sweet.
Now im going to go look for scientific studies
