How cico helped me go keto

(Cynthia Anderson) #1

I read so much on here that cico doesn’t work yet I lost and kept off over 40 lbs using cico.

I got up to at least 220 lbs. The day I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis is the day I decided it was time to stop the yearly creep and lose weight.

Perhaps my approach to cico was different. Perhaps is should be called something else.

I was doing alot of stress eating and eating way too much. I was also drinking probably 1000 calories a day.
4 large bill Miller sweet tea
2 32 oz soda
And a 2 liter of soda a day

Eating 2 candy bars and a 14 oz bag of chips a day a day.

I cut back to 2 teas and 1liter of soda.
I stopped eating candy bars.
I cut back to 4 oz chips.

I dropped 20 lbs fast and was happy.

To maintain I switched to tea with half Splenda half sugar.

I heard about keto and thought about it. But I was addicted to caffeine.

For a few years I maintained 200 lbs.
Then I decided I wanted to lose more weight.

I looked at my diet again.
My goal was 1800 calories a day.
I found myself making decisions like eating a lettuce wraps because lettuce has less calories than bread.

I ate less chips to save calories for real food.
I quit eating corn because the calories we’re so high.

I opted for carrots or green beans instead.

I looked for lower calorie sweet treats such as animal crackers without frosting.

I ate sweets less but ate them slower and enjoyed them more.

I discovered dark chocolate.

All of these healthier choices led me to a low carb diet.

Then in an effort to reduce pack weight and get even healthier I quit caffeine.

What pack weight where did that come from. I’m planning to hike the Appalachian trail as early as 2020. Coffee sugar and creamer weight alot and I would have to carry it along with everything else I need or want. The at is over 2000 miles long. That’s a long time to carry stuff.

Then I realized I could try keto but hesitated. I wouldn’t go thru caffeine withdrawal but didn’t want keto flu. Also I do like my bread.

I finally decided to give it a try because all my weight is in my middle and I read keto is supposed to help with that.

Once I reach my goal I currently intend to go back to a low carb but not quite keto diet.

I think I got minor keto flu symptoms for a day but then it went away.

I’m the opposite! Keto helped me go CICO. I’ve done CICO many times in my life but it’s the usual story…lose some, gain it back a couple months later (or sooner). This time I focused on keto first, and then started counting calories. It’s still hard, but I think keto makes it a little bit easier. Eating the right things makes CICO easier.

Why did you think you have to give up coffee to be keto?

Oh and well done for stopping eating all that crap!

I forgot ti mention my second round of strict cico I lost and kept off another 20 lbs.

I’ve lost 10 so far on keto.

I gave up caffeine to go keto.

My caffeine of choice went from soda to tea to none.

I don’t like tea or coffeewithout sugar.

On keto butter coffee with Splenda works but I use decaf most of the time.

It’s a good th I g you don’t have to give up coffee :coffee: or caffeine for keto… That’s a deal breaker for me!!!

I have followed the same path. And agree with your thinking.
