How can I want to become ketogenic again?

(Michael - When reality fails to meet expectations, the problem is not reality.) #61

@Melzell Although others can inspire you by sharing their experiences, both good and bad, you are the only one who can make you care again. Of all your responses, this struck me: “I just Do. Not. Care”. Well, you’re here asking for help and maybe you do care, just a little.

SAD is a crap shoot. Some people don’t get T2D. Some people don’t get obese. Some people don’t lose their teeth, eyesight, toes or fingers. Some people don’t get bypass surgery. Some people don’t endure gastro-intestinal problems for decades of their lives. Some people don’t get Parkinsons, Altzheimers or dementia. Some people don’t spend the last couple decades of ‘life’ wondering who they are or who the people around them are. Why should you ‘limit’ yourself when you might get away with it? You can live your life as a roll of the dice. Maybe you’ll come out OK, maybe you won’t. No one else cares if you don’t.

If you can’t ‘limit’ yourself to full keto, then just cut carbs as much as you can. The less the better. But do what you can. Or just keep rolling the dice and hoping for the best. :8ball:

That was like an ice bucket challenge right there. Thank you for being blunt and honest in your evaluation of my comments on here. I truly appreciate the candor. I think it was that I wanted to be convinced that I SHOULD care. It’s apparent now that I should at least do the best I can. I had actually fell into a free for all kind of mentality and I saw it reflecting in my weight and as of today I have a terrible cold like I’ve not had in a while. Thank you again!

#63

I’m at 92%. Haven’t gotten to the :100: mark yet.

#64

This is where I teeter right here. I want so bad to be a full-time keto or carnivore person but I also want to have sweets and potatoes like everyone else in my circle. I know there is a balance to be struck but for some stinkin’ reason I have not learned to have self-control. It’s like I’m an all-or-nothing person and I’m so tired of the back-and-forth.

I’m afraid you have that backwards my friend, you seem to be the one who thinks there opinion is scientific fact.

You still have not posted one thing on the forum to support your argument? You are one of those arm rest warriors who thinks they can fool everyone with nothing but there opinion because you are just too lazy to do anything just like an all meat diet is a lazy way to eat?

Colon cancer in humans from eating only meat (esp. red meat[1]) or a high fiber diet (SAD) is an observable, verifiable and scientific fact repeated over and over again in humans and test animals. Cross-validated empirical fact.

Resistant starch (a carb) prevents colon cancer in humans which is an observable, verifiable and scientific fact repeated over and over again in humans and test animals. Cross-validated empirical fact.

So what does my opinion have to do with it[1]?

Just use google scholar and the information is right their in front of your face, problem is, your too lazy to read anything which is very sad just like your dietary choices?

I don’t buy into the red meat = cancer stuff. Too many variables and even less concrete evidence. Much more n=1 (if I wrote that right) proof that means way more to myself. But what do I know. :woman_shrugging:t2: I’m willing to risk health for carbs lately.

Never sit next to Mark if you fly with him, is that it?

I guess the cancer scientist is wrong? And the three people eating a meat only diet for 20 years never died of colon and intestinal cancers?

Who needs facts when you can just eat meat, I’m sure the social zero carb, carnivore kings and queens out-their will be rushing to pay funeral expenses when the next carnivore wonders how they mysteriously got colon cancer? Why I would warn people before eating only meat long-term?

I want to see some 20 year carnivore fecal samples to test for gut permeability, anti-bodies and colon cancers for this whole carnivore N=1 placebo paradox experiment? That is the only way I would be convinced it is a green light for carnivore?

Maybe compare resistant starch carnivores to non-resistant starch carnivores?

I see a lot of tough talk but no action on doing real research?

All I’m seeing is a lot of N=1 placebos and paradoxes with biased ideation?

When we are talking placebo, I could eat only wheat germ and get the same result as the carnivore but they are so unaware of that prospect that they ignore it?

Ketone bodies and autophagy are what heal the body not one type of food.

3? Umm I’ll take my chances

Tis the season. Eat, drink and be marry. Then back to concentrating on really being healthy

(Bunny) #71

Blindly follow your guru, sorry but no poison kool-aid for me!

Who needs common sense?

#72

Kool-aid vs red meat.

Hi, I’m not sure if you say you’re addicted to the sugary carbs (cakes, candy, doughnuts etc) or are choosing those over other carbs. Is it possible for you to eliminate the sugar (I know all carbs turn to sugar but I’m talking about refined sugar) and allow yourself to have a slice of bread or whatever and still stay within 30 carbs a day (until you decide if you want to drop to 20)? I’m just wondering if that would satisfy you and allow you to mentally get back into it.
The questions of “why” that PortHardy mentioned are good. I would say try not to beat yourself up over this. Just accept the choice you’ve made to go off and if you can and want to go back to Keto then that will also be your choice. The holidays may make it difficult to go back to Keto though. Good luck!

(Ben ) #75

Getting into ketosis is one thing. Becoming fat adaptive and metabolically flexible makes the path much easier to follow. Happy Holidays!

I’m doing my best to stay keto for the long run. I know that I need to stay keto to stay healthy/get healthy. I’ve found that, for me, the occasional indulgence makes it easier for me. But I have to limit it. For me it’s hard when my children want to share.

But I totally get the need for some people to be all in, without indulgences

Good luck in your journey. Do what makes it work for you!

Tonight I’m letting them have Smartfood Popcorn. I used a small child-size bowl, while they shared a large one. I also had some peas but I soaked them in butter and salt. We shall see how my glucose reacts. It started at 75 (via CGM).

It’s a spill over battle.

(Daisy) #78

An apparently never ending one that I tire of seeing. For someone who claims to be mostly carnivore, she sure fights against it a heck of a lot.

#79

It blocked some of your words but I think I mostly figured it out.
After reading all of the comments and everyone’s input I think I am concluding that I was simply not prepared. I have carb cycled several times throughout this journey but never did I have the mentality that I could care less. AND THAT SCARED ME! That’s why I turned to here for some help. It worked because I already am taking steps to get back on track. I just needed some to shake me and slap me in the face.

:cherry_blossom::blossom::cherry_blossom::blossom: Thank you everyone for the comments. As I stated before it scared me that I felt this way. If you, too, ever go through more than just a fall but rather are jumping off the Keto wagon I urge you to come back and read the encouraging comments left by others. If this happens to me again I’ll me much more prepared.
