I was looking at wiki how to make my own avocado oil. The orange press method looked the quickest and easiest for me. However I am wondering why they are pressing only the skins. Isn’t the fat in the flesh of the avocado as well as the skin?
Home made avocado oil
Fascinating article; thanks for the link. I notice that, of the three ways to extract the oil, the first and third use the pulp but not the skin, and the second uses the skin but not the pulp. It should be easy to combine either (1) or (3) with (2), and thereby use the entire fruit. I wonder why the article itself doesn’t suggest combining methods.
It’s interesting that you can get enough oil out of the skins to compare with the amount of oil from the pulp. I would never have guessed.
If you were commercially set up to produce oil (or anything) I’d have though you’d utilize every single resource available … price allowing
I usually like do it yourself stuff. But it would be an NO on this one. I prefer buying it.
Fresh avos cost a fortune where I live, so buying the oil is much cheaper.
If I had a half dozen avo trees in my garden/yard that didn’t get down to 0F most of the winter nights , then maybe. I’m retired I could do that labor intensive process, but it would be in the words of Pooh, “bother”…
