Holiday Woe

(Nick Eagle) #1

So I have been TERRIBLE this holiday season! We have 1 more get together tonight with friends we haven’t met with in awhile. There will be awesome food and drinks but tomorrow I will be getting back to it. I just received the ketones that I ordered and am planning to do a fat fast for 3-4 days with these ketones to help. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do to get back into ketosis aside from fat fasting and using the ketones?

Why would you want to take ketones? The body uses ketones as fuel when insulin is low and it has access to fatty acids. So, the benefits of a keto diet resides in burning body fat for fuel and not in the presence of elevated ketones. Assuming you are totally fat adapted, adding ketones could provide extra energy for an athlete. But in the presence of elevated insulin and glucose, it’s hard to say what the effects of an external source of ketones are. Just my 2 cents but might be worth doing some research before ingesting exogenous ketones. As far as jump starting ketosis, I’m not aware of any research beyond anecdotal. Having both elevated blood sugar, insulin and ketones is not a natural state of the body so hard to say what potential negative impact it could have. Further study probably needed. Good luck

I drink a dose of exogenous ketones every day and it’s been great for my keto journey. All they do is give you a boost of ketones and energy, which is a good thing.

Don’t take them.

If your body is not in ketosis then they have little/no value other than great flavor.

Once your body is in ketosis you can take them to make more fuel available bey0nd what your body can metabolize in a day.

I would just do a water fast and some exercise. I got my self back into ketosis in about 24 ish hours after eating too many sweets Christmas day. I fasted until dinner Friday and my keto strips are now super dark.

Grear flavor you say? Well, now you’re making me reconsider my rant. I likes me some flavor

Fat IS my go to. A bar of cream cheese per day for simplicity. One ounce per hour 10am to 6pm. 3 days max. Sorry no other suggestions… Eggs and butter??

I’ve added the salts into shakes/smoothies for great flavoring, but that was before I realized how the body has to first empty the stomach and liver over as many three days before the body is consuming ketones.

Have you been able to document any changes in weight, energy or mood? I’m interested to see someone take these with meticulous unbiased documentation to see how much impact they have. Most people take them without isolating other external factors or documentation so I still see them as snake oil. Can you elaborate on the benefits you’ve obtained from supplementation?

#10

Well I’ve lost 42 pounds in less than 2 months, so there’s that.

(Michael ) #11

That’s not necessarily a testament to exogenous ketones. I lost a lot of weight in past couple of months that could be attributed to a new t-shirt i got, but it’s unlikely that it had a huge impact on my success

I couldn’t get my BG below 130 before I took some. Cures keto flu

However, It is a totally unnatural state for the body. You never have carbs and ketones running around at the same time. Best not to use it long term. Fasting is way cheaper.

Well I’m not an exogenous ketones salesman, it doesn’t matter to me if you use them or not. If you think they’re BS, then don’t buy them.

Clean the pantry and go to the grocery store to stock up on keto essentials, bacon, eggs, cream, some good green veggies, high fat beef, avocado etc. Plan your meals for the next week.
