Hitting a fasting wall maybe

#1

Last week I completed a 5-day water only fast and lost nearly 9 pounds. I re-fed over the weekend and gained back 4 pounds. Lot of water weight I’m sure. (Too many grilled pork chops and gumbo.)

So I entered this week with a net deficit of 4-5 pounds. I then embarked on a 3-day fast which I ended tonight (Wednesday) at 73 hours with sautéed shrimp. Over the past 3 days I lost the 4 pounds I had gained back thus a net loss of 4 pounds over two weeks.

The past two weeks were preceded by a 4-day and a 3-day fast so that is a total of 15 water-only fasting days in 4 weeks.

I might be fasted out so I’m now going to take a full week off before embarking on another water-only fast … meanwhile maybe a bacon fast. :stuck_out_tongue:

Three-days might be my sweet spot for water fasting. At 68 and on heart meds I noticed some minor palpitations this morning but felt ok. Probably dehydrated and imbalance. Not going to push too hard with water-only for a while.

Sensible. Good to mix it up.

Ben, sounds like you have a good approach here. I think that in general, we get better at fasting, the more we do it. It gets easier with practice. Yet you will still get some real curveballs thrown at you. I’ve set out to do 3 to 5 days and gone 10. I’ve also given up fairly quickly sometimes when I’m really just not “feeling it.”

Yes. Know what you mean by not feeling it. A couple of the fasts just did not sit right with my body but others sailed right on.

Funny how it changes up. Exercise, what foods we eat, types of protein, hydration levels, electrolytes, sleep. So many things go into successful fasting, I’m finding. Each one seems to be its own little journey. Even the amount of weight loss changes a bit.

Im now starting to plan the start times of my fasts to get through the first day better. Normally begin at 6 pm after a small meal. But next fast in a few days will begin at noon with a big, filling meal of a 4-egg omelet and lotsa bacon. That way when I wake up the next morning I will already be near 24 hours.

Any one try earlier start times.
