Hiking/Backpacking on Keto

#1

After this most recent blizzard up here in the NE US spring feels really far away, but hiking season is just around the corner.

Now for short hikes I’ve never been much of a snacker. But we do several camping trips, longer full-day mountain climbs and are looking into expanding into backpacking this year.

Anyone out there experienced outdoorsy folks got good tips for eating while camping?

We’ve had such a warm dry winter. So worried for the trees. Lovely hikes in Colorado, especially adore being above treeline. Alpine flowers, crisp air, the view.

Powdered eggs with dehydrated veggies is our main go to supper. We make a great broccoli cheese soup made with powdered cream, powdered cheese, powdered butter, simple and no carb.

Jerky. Cooked bacon. Pemmican. Just vacuum-seal the heck out of it and suspend it from a non-climbable tree if you’re in bear country!
Trader Joe’s has individual packets of coconut oil, about a Tbsp each. One will fill you up & give some good energy, too. (Not sure how bears feel about coconut oil…)

Keto bears are very fond.

Make your own Pemmican. There’s plenty of directions on the Web. It’ll keep you going much better than Trail Mix, and you don’t have to eat nearly as much. Use one of those large, untrimmed Beef Briskets like they have at Wal-Mart.
