Higher fasting glucose levels

(Michael Tranchina) #1

I’m a healthy 54 male who weighs 155…My body fat is <10%…I’m a crossfitter (high intensity exercise), I am muscular, and in the best shape of my life…

I am starting to do some intermittent fasting and I want to become keto-adapted…

I workout every morning 6-7am…I just started a fast last evening at 6:00pm…This morning at 9:00am and today at 1:00pm my glucose level appears to be high at 99…

The last time I fasted for 4 days my glucose levels never dropped below 87…

I am wondering if this is normal for athletes, or is there some explanation for my glucose levels being this high while on a water only fast?

This might help.

That’s a great article, thanks for linking it!

I’ve proven to myself how inaccurate home glucose meters are. 3 tests from the same finger 2 minutes apart will show variations of 10 points or more. Sure, I could test 3 times every day and average those values - but that would get expensive.

Thank you! This is very helpful…I knew it had to be a healthy sign, but I was not able to get a clear understanding of what and why it was happening…This provides a detailed explanation of my high glucose levels…TY!
