Higher blood glucose

(CyndiL) #1

i have flirted with pre-diabetes in the past. My latest A1C is 5.2 with estimated average glucose of 103. (These were taken two months ago) My insulin was 6.1.

All within ‘normal’ range but not optimal as far as the research I have done. I’ve been hoping that the keto diet would help improve these numbers. This morning my fasting BG was 126 after I had a piece of my son’s birthday cake last night. This was the first ‘cheat’ I have had in 8 weeks keto. I guess I am just surprised that it affected my BG this much. In general, I read around 100-105 in the mornings, and I am generally in the upper 80-90’s during the day. I have read some ‘physiological’ reason that low carb eaters have higher BG readings but I don’t understand it. Is this something that will improve over time? I thought I would see more of a drop on less than 20 carbs per day? Should I be keeping a more strict journal of readings?

I am still not really dropping any weight 8 weeks in and I’m not sure how long I should give this. Because i know dropping weight will help improve BG. (Honestly the cake is NOT a regular thing haha) Blood ketones were .3 this morning so it did knock me out of ketosis…

Thanks all!

Your insulin resistance has been reversed, not cured. Your A1C reflects the fact that you’ve been eating within your carb tolerance. But your carb tolerance hasn’t really increased. Your IR isn’t fixed, the sympoms are just dormant. A true cure would take years, if ever, it occurs. Eating LCHF is an effective treatment, but if the treatment stops, the disease reappears.

Well put!
