High glucose

Continuing the discussion from Welcome to Ketogenic Forums:

I’ve been keto for almost a year. I’m off of metformin and my glucose when I get up has been averaging ~111. However in the last few days it ha gone to ~130. I intermittent fast and when I ate my breakfast my glucose went from 138 down to 117. What’s happening?

I didn’t think to add that I had my insulin tested a couple of months ago and it was 5

Ethanol? Screws with my BG days later…

Your body perceives a threat of some sort. If I had to bet, you’re immune system is having a throw down with some sort of virus or bacteria. Hopefully it’ll win, and this will be the last you hear of it.

I’m having a similar BG spike which I suspect is related to two things:

  • Much wine and tapas in Barcelona over the past week
  • Fighting off the “Con Flu” (you know, the illness you get when at a conference)

My solution? Fasting.
Currently at 31 hours and will probably wait until tomorrow to eat again.

For whatever reason, eating a goodly chunk of protein will increase mine. I had a heavy protein day today so my glucose will likely be higher tomorrow.

I am having similar experience. My fasting glucose was high 105-117. After I started keto plus IF 16 my glucose came down below 100 . Then one day my fasting glucose after 16 hour fast was 121! It upset me so much , I am afraid to check it again. My HbA 1 c two years ago was 5.3, so I am probably all right, but I would like to know how glucose is affected by IT and keto?

I was taking metformin when I went on the ketogenic diet and my a1c went to 4.3. My doctor immediately took me off of metformin. Three months later my a1c was still 4.7 which is in the normal range. My glucose never went as low as I thought it should. It averaged 110 when I first got up but it has suddenly went over 120. I haven’t had my a1c checked yet but I intend to have it checked soon
