Can anyone help as why my blood sugar is so high while fasting? I am a little worried my ketone level into 25 hours is 4.5 and my BG is 8.4. It was my first fast ive ever done. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks, Jenny
High blood sugar while fasting
Hi, I don’t have diabetes. I am wanting to loose 5kg as I’ve put that on in just 3 months off Keto. I’ve been eating Keto in and off for years and my BG has never been high constantly like this . I am usually between 4.2 and 5.6. I am not eating anything different so I can’t find an explanation for it. I’ve searched and searched the Internet with no answers. I feel fantastic but I know it’s not normal as my ketone level is between 1.5 and 2 waking. I would much appreciate if you had any thought or possible reasons why it mite be? Feeling desperate
- KCKO
- do 1) for 3 months.
- do your next glucose test
Just as important as the tests themselves is the context of testing. Tests done out of a reasonable context are more useless/dangerous than helpful.
Your glucose testing is distracting you from listening to your body and mind. It impairs KCKO. Especially the C.
Focus.
Eliminate distraction.
kCko
Feel free to teach me why your random glucose testing will help you meet your stated goals. If I see better ideas supported by sound rationale … I change my mind easy. That’s how I got here.
What is KCKO? Oh and thanks for your time . The reason I’m worried about the high BG is that I’m worried I may have suddenly become insulin resistant? Nearly every video I’ve looked at on you tube said it’s not good to have high ketone levels along with high BG. My weight loss is also VERY slow. Two weeks back on Keto and 6 days a weeks cardio at the gym and I’ve only lost 1.5 kg. Also I’ve heard of Ketoacidosis and how dangerous it can be, or can only diabetics get this?
According to Megan Ramos in one of the podcasts, when you fast you burn fat in cells that have stored glucose (sugars). they get into the blood stream and can be used as fuel during the fasting period. Sorry I can’t find the links to those but she said it on two different podcasts, one by the 2ketodudes and another one I stumbled upon with someone else. Also Dr. Fung has mentioned this on one of the youtube videos.
KCFO and KCKO
Oh thank you for your reply but the reason I was doing the fast was to see the difference between eating normal Keto and fasting BG. My BG did not change at all when fasting, still high. I’ve done Keto for 10 years on and off and never had BG this high, it’s usually half of what it is now. I think for some reason it mite be stopping me loosing weight as it’s the only thing in all the years of doing Keto that different . Could I be insulin resistant? And would this come on after just a few months off Keto ?
If the same fasted or in ketosis have you had an A1C test done? If it comes out in the prediabetic or higher levels, yeah, IR.
What is an A1C test? I got my bloods done last week to test for all sorts of things inc diabities, I will be visiting the doctor in the morning for my results. Can I get that A1C test done off a doctor ? And what is it exactly? Thanks a lot
Thanks , I am learning everyday, there is quite a lot to learn hence why I’m just asking for advise
I’ve just read up on the AC1 test and I think it what my doctor may have took bloods for last week as she said it will track my bloods over the last couple of months. Fingers crossed for good news tomorrow and thanks for your time , have a good weekend x
KCKO is keep calm & Keto on. Ketoacidosis only happens to type one diabetics . A1c is a blood test your Dr does to see your average glucose over the past 3 months. I think it’s great you are coming to the forums to find out what you need to be healthy. The more you read here the more you can figure out what works best for you!
The A1C test is ordered by your doctor, or in the USA you can get home kits use as well now. Not sure of your location and if it would be available for home use to you.
It looks at more than current blood condition, it is looking at roughly 3 months.

Ah yes, it must be what my doctor took bloods for as she said it will track past glucose. I’ll find out tomorrow. You been a great help, thank you
If you are concerned about Insulin Resistance you could ask you doctor to orfmder a fasting insulin test and see where you are with it.
I will ask for that here today when I go to the doctors but I’m not sure if that test is available here in the Channel Islands , I asked my doctor when she was taking my bloods last week and I’m sure she said there is no test but I’ll double check, thanks for you comment
I live in Jersey, Channel Islands. America is so much further ahead with the sicence of this diet. Most people I’ve spoken to here have never even heard of it , except Doctors that is but even then they no nothing about the nutrition side
