Hi newbie here

#1

Hi folks I started keto just about 2 weeks ago and my life has changed.
I’m type 2 diabetic…I wear a disposable insulin pump (VGO), take metformin, and shoot up Toujeo at night.
ONE week into Keto my sugars were so under control that I stopped the pump! This was huge for me!
Anyway I’m 53, office worker, familyetc and I’m very happy to be here. Get ready for a lot of stupid questions!

That is wonderful! You are off to a great start!

I presume your doctor is aware of what you are doing? It’s good to keep your doctor up to date when you are healing yourself through diet. If your doctor isn’t already aware of this possibility, it will be a learning opportunity. :slightly_smiling_face: Keto is such a great way, perhaps one of the only ways to heal one’s body.

Welcome to the forums! I’m glad you’re having a good experience so far.

And there are no stupid questions, only stupid people . . . wait, that didn’t come out right!:rofl:

Seriously, it’s better to ask the question than to not ask for fear of sounding stupid. You may get contradictory answers—or far more technical ones than you bargained for—however, so be warned. A lot of this stuff is not as settled science as we’d like, so discussions sometimes get heated. Don’t take it personally.

Also, be warned that fat loss is not linear, and your scale may fluctuate—but that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong!

Welcome to this awesome forum; Mraia =).

I am so pleased for you that you have had such a significant positive response to the Ketogenic lifestyle so early on in your journey, this is fantastic. I am 54, married, with 5 kids and 2 grand kids. There are a lot of forum members in our age range. We also have a Keto woman section on the forum that you might find interesting as well (where we discuss female stuff like menopause, hormones, changes in our clothing, etc too!). Post away any questions, there are always a myriad of great, helpful replies!

@Mraia Greetings and congratulations on your awesome start! This is such a great place to find relevant links to studies and research, and to hear about the successes and obstacles that others have faced along the way.

I’ve found that after spending some time with the “search” feature (magnifying glass icon) on topics of particular interest, I’ve come across a wealth of discussion and reference links.

It’s like hanging out at your favorite book aisle of a bookstore, and meeting up with a parade of people who have read all the same books you’re interested in reading. This forum is a gem!

Best wishes in everything that lies ahead for you!

Welcome @Mraia we are glad you are here! Keep up the good work, sounds like you are off to a great start. Here is my newbie advice:
Keep it simple. 20 carbs or less a day. Eat lots of fat, moderate protein, and green leafy things.
Plan ahead, pack snacks, and meal plan or prep.
Avoid getting too hungry, eat when you are!
Get a tape measure and measure your neck, chest, arms, waist, thighs, and calves. You may see the scale not move and the tape measure get tighter.
Anytime you have questions search on here or ask!
Welcome!

(Marianne) #14

That’s okay; you can still be one of the cool kids!

If I can suggest one thing - it’s to measure - immediately!!! Wish so much I had measured my belly before starting. It was huge, and now it is almost gone. Hard to remember exactly how big it was. Would love to have quantified that.

Mraia, Maria—so much for keto clarity, huh?

Although the icon picture ought to help . . .

(Jill F.) #17

I did and I am a numbers nerd. I love looking back at my chart to see how many actual inches I have lost. It is almost as many inches as pounds!

(Parker the crazy crone lady) #18

I second what @MommyJill2005 said! Measure your various body parts and write them down. I didn’t do that and I regret it. :pensive:
Plus I meant to say NON scale victory, not mom scale victory, lol!
