Hi! Newbie here

(Aisha) #1

Hi there, my name is Aisha and am 27years old, I have been overweight my whole life and have been on all different diets since i was in my early teens. Fortunately I dont have any major illnesses but as any obese person I got exhausted very fast and was always in pain as well as very unhappy about my body. I was 113kg and am now 93kg, although I did lose half of it before finding keto but it (as in keto) has made the process of losing weight easier. I want to thank the 2keto dudes for everything, I found them at a time when I was about to give up on the ketogenic diet out of guilt because i was binging on carbs after every few days of eating keto. I’ve been binge-listening to their podcast since then and it has kept me motivated and informed.
I do have a question for them though, I am living in kenya as of now but originally from sweden and things such as cream or cheese or even butter arent available here regularly and if they are then its too expensive for most people and I cant stand the taste of beef and I dont eat pork for religious reasons. My question is if I only eat eggs, chicken, leafy greens and off course good saturated FAAAAT , will that be a well balanced diet in terms of macros and micros?
Thanks to you Carl and Richard, you’ve been a huge support system for me since keto isnt well known here in Nairobi, Kenya.

P.S You’ll have to excuse my English, it isnt my first or second language.

Welcome - and your English is fine.

Thank You. Its great to find people who understand keto and its amazing benefits. I always get the side-eye from people here only because they dont understand what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.

Your English is better than most native speakers. Welcome to the forums. Fatty fish (not tilapia!)? Salmon, Anchovies, sardines, mussels, shrimp… are pretty good protein and fat sources. Avocados are great too. I eat one a day when I’m not fasting. Olives, awesome! Macadamias and almonds are good too but be careful. It’s easy to over indulge on nuts. Measure out an amount and put the container away before you eat the first one… I’m certain there’s much more available in your grocery store. It’s really about opening your mind, experimenting and being creative.

Welcome. Your proposed diet sounds amazing and spot on. Add variety with herbs and spices plus nuts, seeds, olives, etc. that others have mentioned and you will do fantastically.

Thank you, will definitely do that. I just listened to the weight loss surgeries episode and I got teary-eyed when I was listening to your story (I hope you are that Daisy, if not then I am sorry:confounded:). By the way Is it normal to want to preach the ketogenic lifestyle to people :joy:?

Thank you Mike, we do have plenty of fish here, but as you said I just have to look around more with open eyes😁. I had lots of Avocados in the beginning when I started keto but then I couldnt stand it anymore, I guess I had too much of it but I’ll make sure to reintroduce it slowly back into my diet. I am not a big fan of nuts, not because I dont like them but because I tend to overeat on nuts so I usually make sure that I dont buy them. But thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Yes it was me! Thank you. Yes it is normal

Aisha, yep - normal to want to preach about keto. It’s also normal for others to consider you crazy and off your rocker - especially those who could use it the most for their health and also for professionals in the medical field.

Very true indeed. I’m just so grateful to have found keto when I did, I was about to give up trying to lose weight or getting healthy, I remember telling myself " some people are short, others are tall, some are meant to be healthy and fit and you are meant to be big and fat, no worries, everyone struggles with something in their life, your struggle is being obese". Little did I know that just around the corner I would found the ketogenic lifestyle.

I’m lucky in that I no longer seek comfort from my food. It’s a means to an end… Fuel for my body. Thus a boring meal plan doesn’t bother me. Maybe I’m turning into an old man.:stuck_out_tongue: However, my lower weight and improved health really motivate me once again.

I think thats the mindset that I need.
I believe the older one gets, the more they love the ā€œrealā€ life and appreciate its pleasures (which includes food, offcourse :yum:). What does a youngster really know about life compared to the experienced that have lived to see life at its fullest:wink:…
Thanks guys, I already feel like one of the gang .:grinning:
