Hi! New here!

New here…as in literally this is my first day! I pretty much follow a lower carb diet to begin with and have for years, so I am hoping I can transition a little better into the Keto. I think that the major issues I foresee is not being able to eat a lot of fruit, and not being able to have a cheat meal every once in a while. I know that is preference, but at least for the first month I really want to strictly stick with it. I do have a questions, however, about pre-workout snacks. I do pretty intense work outs (think Crossfit, but not actually Crossfit). I absolutely have to have a snack beforehand, or I can’t get through the workout. I have read that berries are acceptable. I typically eat about 1/2 cup of strawberries and 1/4 cup of cottage cheese beforehand. I think that would be acceptable? For everyone else that works out, what do you eat as a pre-workout snack??

I usually do my workouts late morning, at least an hour or so after I have had my bulletproof coffee (coffee, coconut oil, heavy cream). I never eat in the morning as the BPC is my breakfast. I have plenty of energy from that and usually don’t eat until later in the day.

I don’t know if that helps or not. I think a lot of folks workout or run/cycle in a fasted state too.

I don’t “work out” . I do lift very heavy twice a week. I normally do not eat more than one meal a day, after 4 pm, because that is when I get hungry. Ketogenic nearly 4 years now, no cheats, and my body is only getting more awesome.
Oh. And I cured my fucking diabetes.

HAI! Welcome

Welcome! I mean no disrespect, but I think you are still thinking as a sugar burner. You cannot get through a workout without a carb snack because that is how your body is adapted right now. I would bet that if you go fully ketogenic, you will come back in 4-6 weeks and say that you can do the whole workout with a fat-based snack instead. In fact, you may come back and say (depending on your body fat) that you can do the entire workout 3 days into a water fast! You see, when you are ketogenic, you can burn your body fat stores without the need for a carb load. Your body will produce the carbs it needs on its own also.
