I’m a 48 yo male from USA I work full time in EMS so my hours are weird all the time! I was do T2d and high hnt about 8 years ago and so far have been only on oral meds. I am 6’5" and way 390. I have been on and off the low carb train many times, but seem to alway slide back. I know I need to do this for myself and hope with community souport I will make it stick.

Glad to meet you! I’m a 44 y/o non-diabetic. I had been gaining weight every year of my adult life and just got tired of it.

I’ve been doing strict keto since the middle of August 2016 and am 32 pounds down. So incredibly glad I found 2KD. The support and information I find here has been very helpful.

Welcome!

Hiya, Terry! You’ve come to the right place.

You won’t find a nicer, more experienced and educated crowd of ketoers on the internet, trust me, I’ve looked. It’s testament to Richard and Carl’s good vibes that they’ve attracted such a prime group.

I recommend downloading and listening to their 2 Keto Dudes podcasts. Just pick one and settle in, your kid will actually enjoy this stuff, too. And once the head likes something, the body follows.

Also, the search function at the top right is aces. Type something in, I’ll bet there’s a thread on it in here.

Keto on.

I’m a 52 y/o male software developer, formerly trained and served as a paramedic in the USAF in the 1980’s, and diagnosed as a T2DM in 1998 at 6’0", 320 lbs and a fasting blood glucose of 265 mg/dL with occasional postprandial spikes as high as 525 mg/dL, which is really entering true Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). In other words, it was really bad.

The details of my story are pretty long, but suffice it to say that my HbA1C value is currently 5.2 and has been normal for 10+ years and I am currently about 160 lbs.

I started by eliminating refined carbs and sugars and when I tried to reintroduce them, I always ended up regretting it and gained and lost a lot more than just going from 320 lbs to 160 lbs.

I estimate that from before puberty to now, I’ve gained and lost about 500 lbs, and most of that was under a CICO mindset until I found LCHF and then keto and I am finally off that rollercoaster!

At some point my mindset shifted from one of “failing” when I gained weight to it becoming another learning experience even when I seemed to make the same mistakes over and over again.

You’ve found a great community and best wishes!

Welcome @BigdogEMT. I am wondering about the previous times you mention. Were you low carb or specifically keto? The reason I ask is that I was on and off LCHF and found it to be a struggle with cravings. When I tightened down to keto level those cravings got much less and easier to deal with.

Good luck and I am sure you will make it stick.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I do appriciate it!
As far as before I was just either low carb or Paleo. Have never really focused on high fat!
I do seem to slip into ketosis with positive urine strips! But do seem to stay on the trace to small amount range. I have to do some major exercise to get higher keytones.

Thanks for the souport!
