Hi, I am new

Hello everyone. I am male, single and 63. I am getting ready to start Keto. I will be doing the 16 hr fast and 8 hr eating period.
It amazes me how the butter coffee gets rid of cravings and hunger.
My questions are:

Can I have more than one butter coffee a day?

I am bipolar and off my meds. I can’t write when I am on meds. I have been using meditation to balance myself instead of using meds. It helps. Is there anyone out there where Keto has helped their bipolar?

Can I start this with a 2 or 3 day fast and just drink butter coffee?

Hi @reneco11, yes, you have more than one butter coffee a day. If you had only black coffee and butter during your fast, that would be called a “fat fast.”

I’m wondering if you are working with your doctor concerning your bi-polar medications? It can be super dangerous for people with bi-polar to go off meds.

I can’t comment on the Bi-Polar issue except to say please be careful.

As far as fasting, just don’t force it. Don’t feel you need to rush into longer fasts. If you feel poor, or like you really need to eat, do it. For some people it’s easier to ease into it. Some have no problem going 16/8 or even 20/4 right off the bat. Listen to your body.

Good luck!

I am working with my doctor, he has seen me change in the last 6 months. I still have high and lows, they are no longer extreme. I am hoping that a healty Keto lifestyle might balance it a little more.

I too am bipolar 1. I weaned off 1 medication. Latuda 120 mg without my dr. I still take seroquel 150 mg. So far so good. My moods are stable so far. Been keto for 7 weeks. In not ready to totally be without medication yet. But so far keto has helped my moods. I recommend that you take your time before fasting. As you become fat adapted fasting comes naturally.
Best wishes
