Hershey’s sugar free chips

(Beryl Henry) #1

I’m new to Keto not quite a week in. I saw today that Hershey’s has a sugar free chocolate chip and am not sure if malitol is a go or not?

It does have a glycemic effect, so if you’re watching blood sugar, it’s not that great.

It’s best to avoid Maltitol.

Thanks I’m not tracking blood sugar but will have to keep that in mind. Do I treat it like any other sugar alcohol and subtract it for net carbs?

A lot of people avoid maltitol, I use those chocolate chips all the time since their cheap and taste the most like the real thing. I cna’t rationalize spending $7/bag for lillies which I don’t think taste as good when for $3 I can have Herseys, just gotta see how they effect you. I don’t have any issues with them, that said, stay away from all iffy things the first couple weeks. Allow your body to start adapting before you eat something that may hold you back.

Same answer I was gonna give. high five

Thanks

Malitol can cause GI issues if you are not used to consuming malitol, so stay close to home when you first try them, but I agree they are tasty.

That was the “ end “ result w me
Double pun intended :joy:

Maltitol has a glycemic index of 52. Table sugar is 60. So you will probably get a rise in blood sugar and insulin. It being your first couple weeks in, you definitely want to keep that in mind. It is not going to make or break you though if you pop a handful to satisfy that craving. Just don’t kill the whole bag. Another delicious option I have found is Choc Zero (Amazon). Stuff tastes so good and is much better for you than Hershey’s. A bit pricey but they definitely help when your trying to find keto equivalents to comfort foods.
