Hello, my name is Jennifer and I have jumped back on the Keto train. I have tried Keto before and I can usually lose about 5-6 lbs the first two weeks and then it just stops for months. I get so discouraged and then give up. I had transitioned over to plant based eating in May and felt amazing. The only problem was, I once again lost about 5 pounds and then there were no more changes. I didn’t even lose inches.
The quarantine has not been kind to my husband and I. We are already struggling to lose the weight we have gained through the years and then you add the 10 or so more we gained during this whole COVID-19 ordeal that we are now sitting at our heaviest ever. I weighed in Saturday at 169.4, which I know is too much weight for my body. I am 5’2"/41 years old and my whole body aches, all day.
I am at about 2 weeks back on Keto and I feel amazing. I promised myself that I would be thinner for my 42nd birthday but with it coming around on the 27th, it looks I won’t meet my expectations. It’s really okay though because I have lost about 4 pounds and my clothes are fitting much better. We do walk 3 miles + at least 5 times a week. Which is something we didn’t do the last couple of times we attempted Keto.
I would just like to be able to interact with people who are going through the same thing. It is so hard to find motivation sometimes.
Here we go again
Focus on feeling good and getting healthy, forget the number on the scale. We will all support and guide you but you have to remember, this is a process, not a quick fix, and just because there’s no changes on the outside that doesn’t mean it’s not working as much of the healing needed is internal.
Welcome, Jennifer.
Weight loss stalls and the sometimes long periods of time to fully realize the benefits of very low-carb eating are things to deal with, to be sure. It’s good that you feel good - positive reinforcement at work.
Getting discouraged and not staying with the program happens to a lot of us, me included. We can get right back on the train, however…
I have been feeling much better, more energy and sleeping better, so I know for sure something is happening. It’s good to know that there is a place to come to get the support you sometimes don’t get from people who don’t understand the Keto Journey.
My numbers are vaguely similar… Losing fat was easy when I was fattier, with my current number I need every “tricks”, it doesn’t happen automatically… I need to choose my food items very well. You probably won’t lose fat “quickly” and it’s fine but if you lose nothing, you should change your woe a bit, figure out what keeps you back. A little exercise is a good idea, I am sure we need it for health and well-being.
Good luck!
Hi Shinita, yes I am definitely making exercise a priority this time around. It just makes me feel better at the end of the day, like I have been productive. I am also eating whole Keto foods and not touching the processed keto stuff yet. I keep telling myself that once I am in maintenance I will allow small amounts of things like quest chips or keto breads. I just know that if I start with that stuff now, I will start to indulge and I want to keep this mindset as long as I can.
Good plan.
If you have any other improvements, concentrate on those too. For instance, I was taking 2 24-hour allergy pills per day at one time. For the last several years (low carb since 1/1/14), I have taken maybe one per YEAR.
Many fewer skin tags. Better skin overall. Better energy, mood. Ability to go without eating for long stretches. Ability to work a ton while eating 1-2 meals a day. That’s a short list.
Hi Bob, yes I am seeing a slight improvement in my skin. Which is awesome because I’ve always had a blotchy complexion. I can also say that my mood has definitely improved as well. I am excited to see and feel all the benefits this time around, so I am super focused on staying on track.
