Help with unsweetened coconut flake carbs

(Ashley Haddock) #1

Can someone help me with this label? I do net carbs so this “should” be zero but it has 1 gram of sugar so it has to be at least one carb. I also went to the USDA website that @Brenda linked awhile back to see if I could get some clarification. Different brand but carbs are the same.

Well hell. I would THINK they had at least one net gram carbohydrate. Very few foods cancel out their carbs with fiber (hemp seed and flax come to mind).
Seriously? If I had gone down this rabbit hole myself I would have also checked the USDA site and would be confidant with that result.

Personally I would count it as 1 net gram per serving

That’s what I was thinking too, but wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. Thanks!

My unsweetened coconut, for the same serving size (by weight), says 4g carbs, 2g fiber, and <1g sugar. I count it as 2g carbs.

Thank you!
