Help with breakfast before runs

#1

I just threw out the last nine Power Bars that I had which I had been eating before my runs. Now that I am keto, I don’t know what to fuel with. Cashew butter? Grass-fed beef sticks? New to this, guidance welcome.

What was wrong with the power bars? I use quest bars before my long mountain hikes.

When you run, how far do you go and do you sprint or go at a lower pace?

Lower speed/distance you could try a fasted run and take an electrolyte drink with you. Or for a longer endurance run you could try a handful of nuts or nut butter and the beef sticks/fat bomb and a bulletproof coffee. Take a sachet of nut butter/nuts and electrolyte drink too.

I don’t anything about fast running and what to eat.

I’m not a sports scientist or coach or anything, it’s just what I’ve gleaned from previous HFLC endurance running group.

Too much carbs and sugar possibly preventing me from going into ketosis and becoming fat adapted which I am striving for.

Fair enough. I didn’t do Quest bars until I was well adapted and still go easy on them. Good luck on your Keto journey and WELCOME to the forum!:slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t run, but I walk an hour before breakfast. Exercising in a fasted state burns more fat.

Tomorrow will be my first fasted run ever. A bit anxious. Going to sleep now to get up early for my run.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #8

I thought this was a different thread when I started reading it! Now, in that thread, all the runners were talking about running while fasting, since on a long run your ketones supply the fuel. It’s a thought, anyway.
