Help! Weight is not going down!

(Gina S) #1

So maybe turning 40 doesn’t help, but I am stuck! I have been Keto since January 1st, and I am down only 6 pounds to date. I have PCOS, and I am sure I am pre-diabetic. My last A1C was 5.2. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and gave birth in May 2016. I check my fasting every morning still and I am in the 105-110 range. I have been working on drinking plenty of water, and trying to get sleep (yeah right with a 20 month old) but I am at a loss as to why I am not losing more. I am watching my macros as well. I have to think I am extremely insulin resistant. Can anyone offer me some advice? I think I need to start fasting, but I am still hungry! WTH? Help me, por favor!

Track your measurements as well as (or - even better - instead of!) weight; they’ll be a more reliable marker of what’s going on, and also probably more relevant to your goals.
In any case, with PCOS and lack of sleep, you will likely have to be patient as your body adjusts and does whatever it needs to do on the way to your goal.
Others will likely be on to ask about your daily food, meal timing and macro ratios, so if you want to post that you’ll get more specific advice.
In the meantime, stay off the scale! It’s not your friend and doesn’t tell you what you need to know.

I just turned 54 and it isn’t a help or hindrance! Congrats on the six pounds lost at least it’s not six pounds gained right? :grinning:

What are you eating on a typical day? Are your carbs 20 grams or less? How much fat are you eating?

You’ve lost 6 pounds in under 6 weeks with PCOS and heading toward diabetes? Sounds pretty good to me!

Be patient (I know, it’s hard). Your body needs to heal hormonally. Weight is not the only health marker.

What are your stats? Height/weight/food log?

I agree with Madeleine with respect to the comment tracking your daily macros. Use an App such as My Fitness Pal (free version) to log everything you eat, and review the resulting overall daily macros. It is not uncommon for foods to contain “hidden carbs” that people don’t realize until they start tracking food intake.

You also state that “I have been Keto since January 1st”, but also state your blood sugar levels (BSL) are in the 105-110 range. With this conflicting information, I suspect you believe you have been following a keto diet since January 1st, but may not actually have been in ketosis.

It would be helpful to state what macro goals you have been targeting on the diet.
