HELP. So Hungover

Dear 8lb 6oz Sweet Baby Jesus…

I fasted all day yesterday (aside from a BPC) and went to happy hour around 7pm. I ate 100% keto, it was a Brazilian Steakhouse and we add all appetizers - Caesar salad, lamb, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, etc…but we had SO much red wine. I had to look at the receipt to figure out how many we had - 4 glasses each, and they were not small pours.

Woke up to a killer hangover. Also, it’s 6am and I can’t sleep anymore. Ugh.

2 questions…1) Aside from water, any advice dealing with a hangover on keto? 2) How do I get back into ketosis quickly? I was planning on fat fasting but would love advice. I don’t think I’m fully fat adapted yet - for reference.

For me, it was time :confounded: The hangovers are different when you are Keto, and much harder to shake. I would maybe try bacon with BPC if you can stomach it. Took me hours to get over my Keto hangover.

Now, I totally have to moderate.

Ugh. Time…you know what they say, real luxury isn’t having an excess of nice things, it’s having an excess of time…
How has no one invented a real hangover cure yet? It’s 2017 people!

Hot greasy food and lots of liquids is all that works for me. I try to chug 16oz of water with some meds right before bed.

Wine hangovers seem much worse to me than liquor.

Also for the record - I gained 3 lbs the last two days and I owe it all to alcohol. Ugh.

it might sound like the last thing you can or want to do but do whatever exercise your doc has released you for…even just a walk

The only “cure” is the same as before keto…

Keep on drinking.

Hair of the dog or Bloody Mary, easy on the tomato juice. And make it a double

:bacon::tropical_drink:

Try a keto hangover fry-up - bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, maybe some cherry tomatoes, fried in liberal amounts of butter. Always makes me feel more human, at least until I see the pile of washing up afterwards.

I’ve got something that helps with hangovers while on Keto…It doesn’t taste particularly good and you do have to be careful, but…

8-24 oz water
1/2 t salt
1/2 t potassium salt
Optional: lime juice to taste

This usually blasts my hangover in about an hour…if I can keep it down. I follow it with bulletproof coffee once it starts to abate to get my fat intake up. Hangovers are a function of dehydration and adding a little salt to your water will assist your body in absorbing it better.

It works because of 75% of a hangover is dehydration. Especially with red wine.

Personally, I like Powerade Zero. I think it uses sucralose, which doesn’t effect me negatively. Also, If I’m real bad off, a little salt water.
