Help needed whats going on?

Hi everyone one.
So I have been on a keto diet for 7 weeks I was
14.5 stone with 25% body fat

I am now 13.5 stone with 19% body fat.

I have been eating my usual foods and drinking around 3l to 4l of water a day.

Yesterday really scared me no idea what is wrong

I nearly collapsed I was sunbathing and my head started spinning felt really sick went and lied down on the sofa fighting sick feeling seeing fuzzy. Then fell asleep and woke up a bit better drink loads. Still had motion boat feeling for rest of the night… anyway today I just eaten massive bowl of spinnich and broc with chicken loads of cream and cheese. Started cleaning up and I get the spinning room feeling again. As well as fuzzy vision. I read on line about posassum deficancy and they are some of the symptoms. But so would low blood sugar.

I have really bad loose stools today as well.

I have have a bad cough for 3 weeks with flem coming up but I but that down to just a cold.

Seems to have gone now but still

Feeling dissy and got the runs.

What’s up ??

I haven’t been recording my intake of electrolytes maybe potassium definitely?

Have you been getting enough salt? That is the most common cause of something like that

(Joe Murtagh) #3

No I haven’t and to be honest in the 7 weeks I been on this diet I have never added any salt to my foods.

(Joe Murtagh) #4

I also do not eat red meats just fish chicken and Turkey mince

Increasing salt is a MUST! I add more salts to food I typically eat, and on days where I fast I will have salty broth or simply drink some Himalayan pink salt in water. Especially since you have diarrhea you are likely very low on salt and possibly dehydrated.

@Brenda has a great keto Gatorade recipe that was recently bumped, I suggest adding some of that to your daily routine.

Also based on your photo I am guessing you work out. I lift and do hot yoga and need even MORE salt than the average ketonian. Make salt your BFF!!!

So what should I do I was thinking dioralyte but that has 4g of glucose in it ? My ketostix index are deep purple

(Joe Murtagh) #8

Yes I do intense weightlifting bit in the 7 weeks of this diet I haven’t been to the gym due to lack of energy

That’s normal, you are still in an induction phase.

I mixed lime juice, Lite Salt (has potassium in it), Himalayan Salt and then Stevia when I was going through keto flu and it greatly improved my issues. I would recommend this. On heavy workout days now, especially after hot yoga, I drink coconut water. Keto no no for some, but I have received no adverse affects personally.

This is probably this best thing I can get that is local to me in the shops

I would mores focus on the best way to get salts in your diet that is simple. If you are planning to do this diet long term, adding more supplements can sometimes make things more complicated. To each their own though, I hope that supplement works out.

I had this exact same reaction about a month in while I was doing some gardening. I just went in and drank some water and it passed but I was still light headed. Since then I have started eating pink himalayan salt, probably about a teaspoon over the day, and I haven’t had this since.

Most likely it is the dehydration causing the dark ketone strips too. The more concentrated the urine is (darker yellow) the higher the urine strips will read.

Salt in your water bottle will help keep hydration happening. But not too much because that will cause the water to flow out via your gut. I use about 1/2 tsp of pink salt for each 20oz water bottle on a daily basis, plus salt in food.

Hmm true I’ll look into it. But for now I need a quick fix to stop whatever is wrong with me. I’ll try the electrolytes. My friend who is a fitness instructor to me to do Cyclic keto now and to get a banna down me

(Joe Murtagh) #15

That’s the thing I’m drinking 3 to 4 l a day so I don’t see how I’m dehydrated.

that’s 2.5l I drink 1.5 of them

Bananas are high on potassium and may actually make a salt deficiency worse. I also would not try switching back out of keto until you get the electrolyte balance figured out. Going in and out of keto can mess with that.

Plain water flushes electrolytes from the body. People can actually die from drinking too much plain water.

Lol great thanks so quick fix as in what in my house now? tea spoon of salt and water?

#19

Try some salt on the tongue and then some mildly salty water. Sip it.

If you don’t see an improvement you should seek medical advice
