Help! Just got into ketosis but had a big ooops :(

(Seth Overdeer) #3

Just don’t let be an excuse to indulge anymore. Life happens, the longer you do this, the easier it becomes. You guys probably aren’t completely out of cravings for old comfort food yet. It will take a few hours to burn all the sugar off, but you will get back into ketosis.

You can fall off the horse quickly, don’t get down about it. Just get back to it as soon as possible.

What are your goals for going keto? Weight loss? Mental clarity? Physical fitness? Overall better health? It takes time to get unhealthy, and it takes time to get healthy. It’s a process.

Thank you for the words of incouragment! Yes it was like we weren’t even thinking about it just laughing talking to everyone enjoying the party then there we are eating these foods we’ve been so diligant to avoid. We’re wanting weight loss and overall better health. The past few months we’ve been so busy eating out and I health food we were feeling tired all the time just worn out. We realized it was our diet!

(Christina ) #5

We have been dispilined all week but when you’ve eating southern food for 30 years of your life it’s second nature… talking laughing and enjoying each other we didn’t even pay attention to food until it was to late but yea we have definitely had our wake up call with this. But thanks.

Do your self a favor and nip this in the bud now. Tell your family exactly what you are doing and why. They may or may not understand but if they do anything in the future from that point to push you into eating against your WOE you need to be strong and they need to understand why you are resisting. The true damage being done is not what you ate that is going to happen, and you will pay the penance for it, its the support you will need from them dont alienate them make/help them understand. It sounds like in this case they did not know yet so make sure they do.
It has been an uphill battle for me, snarky comments, my college age nieces who say I could die from this diet, and I think to a certain extent jealousy. I have an ex wife who is southern and I understand the pressure that can come with family gatherings.

I have a simple saying I memorized I tell people who don’t try and understand.

Fingers or fries, what will it be?

I will say that you probably have screwed up what you did in the last couple days, and may take a couple days to recover. If you exercise go do that to dump your glycogen stores so you can start to make ketones again. If you keep having mess ups though you could end up taking for ever to fat adapt and this were the true power of this WOE lies. At least you both realized it and can support each other.

Thank you so much! We told them but they kind of blew it off like oh it won’t really hurt one time or fully understand that it actually does! It is hard when they dont take it seriously but it helps hearing that you can overcome the snarky comments because we’ve gotten a lot of them! Then it turns into “so you’re going to deprive Ella of good food?” (Ella our 4 year old daughter) our family is for the most part healthy but they don’t watch what they eat like we have been. We explained it more tonight so hopefully they will be more willing to accommodate.

I love your saying about fingers or fries I won’t forget that!

I also feel so bloated and tired from what little I had. I’m def going to he gym tomorrow!

Plus we sure don’t plan on having another slip up it was awful we have been talking about it all night with guilt! My BF said we’ll their words don’t last forever but our fat asses could so no no and no more accidents :joy::joy::joy:

That’s why some people always keep postponing the keto: If you got a birthday/event ahead and before that birthday/event, your body was not yet ready and fat-adapted, then the effort was basically all wasted. Either that, or the cake/sweet wasted. <_<

I know procrastination is bad, but waste of food is also bad.

(Liz ) #10

Lol “good food”.

Sounds to me like the event just clarified your resolve & you are back at it. Hopefully you feel better quickly & get back to that bacon & eggs!

You guys!!! :joy::joy::joy: Ok, I’m a newbie, and yeah, you screwed up, BUT the key to success is getting up from an epic fail, learning from your mistake, and start again. In 3 months I’ve lost 24 pounds without any exercise. I need to exercise!!! Anyway, about a week ago after eating only KETO for 3 months I decided to have a cheat day to see if I could shock my body into some weight loss. I was like freaking Templeton, the rat from Charlotte’s Web at the fair. I ate every Cuban guava pastry, bocaditos, croquetas, cake, and I almost orgasmed when I tasted pizza. But you know what happened the next day? It was like I poisoned myself. I couldn’t get out of bed. My muscles hurt. I couldn’t eat for like 2 days. My body no longer wants that shit in its system and it was punishing me for LITERALLY intoxicating it. It was a 6 hour binge that on the plus side, YES, shocked my system and I’m losing again, BUT I could wholeheartedly say NOT WORTH IT. It took 24 hours for me to finally not have muscle aches, 48 hours to finally be able to eat, and 4 days to get back in ketosis. So now after your binge, just carry on and continue your ketosis journey. That’s all you could do. Remember, nothing tastes as good as healthy feels. Hugs, and stay away from little kid parties!!! That’s where I binged too!!! :joy::joy::joy:

And are you sure that is physiological instead of being psychological? As in, body problem instead of guilty problem?

(Grisell Gajano) #13

It wasn’t psychological because I felt no guilt. I planned to binge in order to shock my system since I was at a 2 week no weight loss stall. I’m painting a mural in Wynwood. Painting is my passion! I could not get up to go paint!!! My body just TOTALLY freaked out after intaking so many carbs all at once after 3 months of only eating like 15 grams a day. Nothing stops me from painting. Apparently carbs did!

Personally if you came home to a surprise birthday party I think that’s acceptable. It sucks your birthday was so soon after starting though. I feel like if making this a life time thing it’s unreasonable to assume I’m never going to eat ANYTHING bad ever again. I’m just hoping to make those things the exception to the rule from now on. Just calm down and get back to it you’ll be alright…

Yep even old hats have bad days, literally right after I wrote this.

I was on the way home from vacation yesterday which despite a week and half on the road kept keot, I stopped at a small cafe half way. I ordered what appeared to be and after asking a few questions of the server, a ketoish friendly dish. A pork tenderloin roll, i asked the server what was in it and received the answer pork, spinach, broccoli and onions and cream. It was her second day and I probably should have known better when she had to go ask someone exactly what was in it.

After taking a few big bites and not really paying attention I got that distinct flavor, sweetness. It had corn starch sauce, no cream to speak of, there was carrots, no onions but had flavor of it, but some yam or sweet potato instead in a puree. In of itself it was very good, and I cannot complain about the dish or the server save the error about not saying what the sauce was. She apologized it was late at night and I needed to get moving.

So i have been keto since nov 1, I knocked myself out for thanksgiving and Christmas knowingly and once unknowingly over some gum/breath mints. I prepared for the times I knew, but at the time I was not fat adapted. The gum/breath mints was a minor amount and never really gave me issues other than just feeling off. I probably have over eaten protien a few times in there as well on vacation again no major issues other than feeling a little off.

I can say that I have never had a headache, or sinus pressure like that in my 44 years which hit a about 20 minutes later. Inside of an hour my joints were aching, and had more gas than I knew what to do with. I was home in 3 hours, and by then it mostly passed but so not worth it.

(Christina ) #16

Haha  I love the charolettes web refrance! I was wondering if eating the carbs and sugar was the cause of my headache today ? I haven’t had one all week and that is unusual. It makes me feel so much better hearing your story that’s exactly what we need because you do feel so shitty when this happens! Yes we’re ketoing on!!! Thanks so much! Great job on your journey!

(Christina ) #17

Oh no I never even thought about gum! I hope you got some rest and felt better quickly!

(Christina ) #18

Thank you  feeling much better (mentally) today! this was the cake that destroyed my keto funny but NOT WORTH it! Lol

(Christina ) #19

I know right “good food” bless it :joy: should I put our toddler on it too? With her I still give her the regular foods like she loves easy Mac, peanut butter and jelly and apple sauce that one can’t go anywhere lol but those foods don’t tempt me at all she’s a picky eater as it is so you think I should cut our all carbs for her?! She also eats a lot of healthy foods but there’s still those few things she loves hmmmm?

(Liz ) #20

I do not have kids so I cannot advise! But here’s a thread that discusses it thoroughly:

I was a sugar addicted kid as I explain in the thread. I knew it was bad but I couldn’t do anything about it and no one could have stopped me getting my carb fix. It’s complicated.

(Christina ) #21

Thank you!

One of the secret ingredients you need watch out for on “sugar free” items is maltitol, for me at least it has a enough of a insulin response knock me out of keto and seems to be the only sweetener that does. I am not really in to sweet things anymore though, so I don’t try them too often. I was having keto breath issues.

Yes I am feeling better but still out of keto at the moment, I also ate pretty high in protein in the last 24 hours so that is not helping any. One nice thing about fat adaption unlike the keto adaption phase is that you don’t loose all your energy once the glucose levels drop in your blood because I don’t need ketones as much as I did then. But my god that head ache was bad and I am pretty sure my BP shot up as well.
