Ah, good to know. Useful information.
Help! I'm in ketosis and my friend invited me to dinner. She's serving lasagna!
I agree with this. This is my second stage response after a person refuses to accept my no thanks, I’m fine.
Although, if someone invites me for pastries and coffee, I really gotta tell them I don’t eat wheat or drink coffee. When I first met my boyfriend’s mother, we were out and about and she wanted to take me to such pastry place. I had to tell her. And I asked her if they had tea. She didn’t know. At the time, I wasn’t keto and told her if they had anything gluten-free, then I could do that. Otherwise, I’m happy to go and have tea and chat. She decided to scrap the plan. I felt slightly bad, but it didn’t affect our relationship.
All in all, I don’t treat it like it’s a big deal and most other people don’t either.
And people who do this are truly your friends. Friends let you decide what is best for you. They can offer an opinion but they know you are an adult and can make your own decisions.
^ That. Another way to think of it…if it were a truly life threatening allergy (even though, yes, I realize many people consider KOE life saving, but I’m talking about an allergic reaction, die immediately sort of thing), we wouldn’t hesitate to refuse food. We wouldn’t feel guilty about or feel pressured to eat it. We’d just say “No thanks” or “I’d love to, but I can’t” and leave it at that.
We wouldn’t expect the host to necessarily cater to our needs, either. And for some, being in the “spot light” by bringing their own food is too much. So I think each person needs to do what suits them best. Fast, eat beforehand, bring their own food, bring a dish to share, eat what’s available in moderation, pick out the keto parts, etc. LOTS of ways to deal with the situation…people just need to choose what works best for them and in that particular situation.
You wanna laugh? I also hate it, it’s the only way I don’t dislike it. (Soaking in cheese, sauce and meat)
Thanks everyone! Still in ketosis this morning after the dinner.
Update…
I cooked some ground beef with pork lard and ate that before going.
I drank water while they had their wine. I talked about keto, and they seemed slightly interested, ( I got the feeling it wasn’t for them, because…no wine). There were cured meat, cheese & basil skewers with olive oil and balsamic at the party, so I ate some of the cured meats in the oil from those, and I ate some of the meat filling only (mixed with tomato sauce OH NO!) and no one noticed because they were all buzzed and talking.
I skipped the salad, as I’m not into vegetables or fruits.
I went home knowing I would fast in the morning and have some rendered pork fat later, to push the carbs from the tomato sauce that accidentally that got in my bites. I feel great. I have some pork ribs I just seared with butter and put in the crock pot for tonight. Situation averted.
I appreciate all of you! Juice: I love your recipe for sizzle/steak lasagne sheets in an all meat bake. Wow!
Looks like you navigated it really well without compromising your eating plan. Well done!
So I just realized that you’re pretty much carnivore, do a bit of tomatoes or veggies affect you in a bad way usually? I’m thinking about a short time with carnivore diet but I love the flavors and textures that veggies add to a keto lifestyle. I eat a fair amount of fermented veggies too. The probiotic cultures in them got me past a stall and losing weight again. And cutting back on protein as well so I wonder some about how it will affect me. I love the bacon experiment group on Facebook but haven’t tried it myself yet.
Ditto, dry wine is so keto. I would not have been eating this way for over 2 yrs if wine wasn’t allowed.
Sounds like you handled the situation well and you got to socialize with friends. Win-win.
LOL! Nothing wrong with wine but when I’m in ketosis 1 glass of pinot has me counting ceiling tiles. I would get too sleepy too quick…embarrasing huh? I’m not sure why this happens.
Yeah, it does hit you harder or for most of us it does. I’m such a cheap date now, LOL.
Hi David, Thank you for your excellent post! I live in Mexico now, and have been dying for the delicious kimchi I used to get in California. You have inspired me to attempt to make it myself. I made some prebiotic/probiotic pickles ( 1 jar cukes, the other asparagus) and they are good, but i really miss the kimchee.I am delighted it helped you get through a stall, so good to know.
Bacon is a staple at my house.
Yes, I am mainly high fat carnivore, record and watch my macros, so watching the protein percentage. I do have some fresh asparagus I will be adding in tomorrow’s meals.
Here’s a couple of good starting points for fermentation at home: I love Paò Caí, sauerkraut and Kim chee and make my own cheaper and taylored to my taste.
This is a real issue that I think about a lot. I am a member of a very compassionate group of people who invariably ask those attending to bring a contribution for a vegan lunch. The view seems to be that it doesn’t hurt meat eaters to go without meat, but non meat eaters shouldn’t be required to come face to face its meat or even any animal product. I understand that latter bit, but the total carb heavy stuff served up really does harm me and I loathe it. I just don’t stay to lunch so I have a reputation for being unsociable.
Yeah, that’s me, too. A good friend wouldn’t sabotage you knowing your way of eating doesn’t include lasagna. I would politely decline, stay home, and cook myself a nice big ribeye. LOL!
