Hello!

(Cory Allaire) #1

Hello, Cory here new to keto, new to this website with wonderful sources of information. Been on keto for 8 days now. Went from 262.4 to a weigh in today of 249.4. I finally wanted to post to say thank you for all the wonderful information that has helped me so much! I have been following macros, due to me usually being a huge eater, I’m talking about 4 pizzas worth of food from cicis all you can eat pizza buffet. So I wanted to watch every aspect of what I eat. My goal weight is 220 pounds.

20 net carbs daily
153g of Fat
123g of protein
1954 calories

I have been averaging around:

5 net carbs daily
75-100g of fat
123g-150g of protein
1200-1600 calorie intake

I think I have been going pretty well, but alas I do have a question that I have most likely overlooked being asked.

Recommended exercises? I have heard that often people that diet with little to no exercise or doing the wrong exercise usually hit a plateau. I’ve been walking about 2 miles a day but I don’t feel that is enough. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome Corey.

Looks like you are doing fine so far and congrats on a good start to your journey,.

Many nutrition experts say that 80% of good health can be attributed to diet so even if you did no excercise you will be far better off than you were before. There are many who do lazy keto and their lives have remarkably improved. However, there’s nothing wrong with exercise and it can improve many health markers. I would consider it (zero carb) icing on the (keto) cake. You are already more than 3/4s the way toward being healthy again.

My advice would be that when you feel like exercising, you should lie down until it passes. My motto is: “No pain . . . no pain.”

Seriously, however, exercise won’t help with weight loss, but it can help to restore metabolic health.

Thank you for the advice. But doesn’t muscle gained from working out help burn fat faster?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

Yes, if you have more muscle your metabolic load increases, but that’s a small part of the story. Exercise also helps heal the mitochondria in the muscle tissue you’ve already got, and that’s far more important to fat-burning. Not only that, but simply eating keto allows the mitochondria in your fat cells to burn far more fat than the cells require for their own metabolism—in effect, allowing the fat cells to waste energy. How cool is that?

So, my point is not that exercise isn’t valuable, merely that it’s not particularly useful for weight loss. I lost sixty pounds just from eating keto, without doing any exercise at all. People have also been known to put on some muscle mass in the process of eating keto, even without exercise. The human body is strange and wonderful. :bacon:
