Hello! My introduction

(Jill Carpenter aka space coast spinster) #1

Just joined this forum today.
I started about 2.5 weeks ago.

I wasn’t planning to diet, but a neighbor of mine was having a rough time and needed some accountability.

My rolly pollie belly has gotten a bit out of control so I offered to lose a few too.

Back in 2007 I did Atkins and l lost 77 pounds in 5 months, so I have some experience as far as knowing what to expect to have to do. I realize there are some different things with keto so decided to mix it up. I also just hit the over 50 club and someone said it’s better I drop weight now before the menopause hits.

A week or so ago I started watching a few YouTube videos about sugar, and have been vigilant ever since about checking labels on everything I come across. Didn’t realize how much hidden sugars were in virtually everything! I’m not a regular sweets eater but that video was amazingly eye opening to how much sugar I was still getting.

Then started researching about seed oils, that too has put some restrictions on what I’m eating.

Anyway, down over 7lbs already and would love to keep the 2lbs a week going.

I ate only meat and cheese the first 10 days just to kick into ketosis quickly and get past the sugar headaches.

My neighbor has lost about 6 lbs. She’s feeling more motivated now. I had to go through her fridge and pretty much toss everything

She’s got diabetes and had high salt issues. She doesn’t own a salt shaker even, but I pointed out her zero Coke and proceed foods all had plenty. She doesn’t really want to cook. She’s one of those people who wants to reach in the fridge and just eat.

I on the other hand love to cook and I’m a complete foodie.

Spoiled myself with eggs florentine with a cheese sauce for brunch - over roasted portobello mushrooms.

Anyway, looking forward to swapping recipe ideas and learning new things!

Excited to maybe have some Goodwill clothes to drop off before end of summer.

Oh, my only kryptonite right now is the free sample stuff in the grocery store. I’m a personal shopper for groceries and am in the grocery store up to 8 times a day. :joy:

Hi and welcome! Best bet is to eat before going to grocery store and avoid sample tables. Look at it like this just because you are in and out of a grocery store all day doesnt mean you have to eat there. Just like for years I worked at a clothing store but I didnt buy things everyday. I have gone from a size 14 to a 4 since December. Keto is awesome! Welcome and we are glad to have you here!

Welcome Jill.

I went down the nutritional rabbit hole about nine months ago and I have no intention of climbing out. I’ve learned so much about how food affects me and how much harmful processed garbage is out there. It’s so much safer down here. :rabbit:

Girl, I hope you’re using coupons!

I toyed with the idea of being a personal grocery shopper several years ago. The plan was to shop for a client for “free”. Basically, they would pay the “shelf price” while my profit came from the coupon savings. Sadly, my town is too small to support this.

Welcome to the forum!

Edited to add: You need to post that pic on the What Did You Keto Today thread!

Hi, I’m new here too x

Welcome to this fabulous forum, Jill. I am pretty new too, and I love it, the people are all great =).

Hi and welcome! I’m so glad you and your neighbor are having some success. My neighbor has been doing this with me too and it’s great to have that accountability and someone to share ideas and success with. Also, this board is great too!!

Yes, this!! I spent ages in the mustard aisle one day until I found one that didn’t have added sugar. And salad dressing - why do you need sugar in salad dressing? I’m sometimes afraid to order a salad in a restaurant because I worry the dressing will be loaded with sugar.

Haha. I’m a foodie. I’m not even hungry, it’s about wanting to taste everything. And judge it and make it better.
Found I had to stop myself last week as I forgot I was doing the keto.

Shopping for others makes me aware of products too that I have no clue about.

Like this delicious evil that I’ve decided I need to make myself with my icecream maker (and no, I didn’t eat the whole point in one sitting :rofl:, which my neighbor couldn’t believe as she can’t stop herself):

Yum that looks good! I have been craving ice cream!

I wonder how they get away with putting 8 grams net carbs per pint when the nutrition information on the back indicates that much per 1/2 cup serving and there’s 4 servings per container.

I think it has to do with the sugar Alcohols which can mess some people up.

But honestly, it’s so creamy I am good with a couple bites.

Then again, the monthly visit hasn’t happened nor have I had any weed.

It’s pretty darn good.

I found a recipe to make homemade keto dark chocolate bars and thought I’d make an icecream with that and some raspberries maybe or do a macadamia and chocolate.

It’s going to be a few weeks before I can get to it and I want to see more scale motion first.

That rebel is over $6 a pint, so unless it goes on a BOGO sale I’m trying to forget about it. Lol

Wow; this meal looks so appetizing! If you keep cooking like that, my bet is you won’t have any trouble staying on this long term because you will love your meals. Have you checked out the Trilogy thread? Tons of beautiful meals and ideas on there for people who love to cook.

That’s amazing. Do you know of any women in menopause on a vegan Keto plan?
Also, Can I go from a 5 day water fast into a keto plan?
I can stay on a water fast without issues. It’s the refeed that is difficult. I’m in menopause and my body isn’t into any dairy. . I am taking supplements for it. I’m at my maximum weight ever. I’m 40 lbs over weight. 5-2 ft. 160 lbs. I’m hurting.

A friend of mine does vegan keto and she struggles to stay full. But she eats a lot of cheese. I know it can be done vegan but I know for myself I stay full primarily by eating meat based protein. You could try protein shakes and peanut based products to try to increase fat and protein intake. I am pretty close to carnivore though so I am not the expert to ask by any means! Best wishes !
