Hello, I am very grateful for this forum! Thank you!
I have been on weight watching forever it seems.
Have tried Atkins type diets and actually did loose weight but was always hungry…ughhh, low carbs, low fat, high protein was getting miserable.
Until behold! This keto diet came from my co- worker, and once I Googled it, I gave it a try.
Only been on it for a week and half and have lost several pounds. At once, I realized I very rarely feel hungry to the point I question it! Does fat have a play in this? Just so amazed that I can feast on beloved avocados, cheese and nuts as well as higher fat meats
Wow, this “diet” came in a timely manner and I am impressed with satisfaction of how I don’t crave or even want my fav potatoe chips or french fries !! I knew this stuff was bad in the first place but like an alcoholic, I couldn’t let go. I now never even think of that junk!
Only problem is, I feel very tired and fatigued when I do my regular routine, hiking the mountain trails at 8,500 feet, base. Is this something that will resolve in time or should I injest some carbs prior to my hike?
Or is there some other game play?
I truly hope this will work itself out as keto is amazing at curbing appetite, thanks for your help in advance!
Hello, and another newbie
Welcome! Sounds like you are are on the right track. The fatigue might be a sign you need more fluids and additional sodium. With the early stages of keto we excrete a lot of urine. And where water goes so goes sodium.
Welcome to Keto and welcome to this Forum!
Well done for making a good choice! Enjoy your time and may your life be filled with bacon

Be patient, you’re only a week in. When you become fat adapted you’ll be able to do your hiking as before. You don’t need carbs for that.
Congrats and best wishes on your new keto journey. It sounds like you are off to a great start.
Yep @Anderson has it right, you are new and it takes a little time to become fat adapted. Once that happens you will have just as much if not more energy than before. The best part is that the energy is consistent!
I’ve been Keto since September last year and I do regular 20-25 hikes without any extra carbs. (Admittedly they are at sea level) I often do them with no breakfast or lunch and only consume salt and water. I’ve also done them in the middle of a 4 day fast without a problem. Being fat adapted and the salt is the key.
Just give it time and look after yourself for the first couple of months.
thank all of you for your responses!
I can now say at week 5, I am adopting to this “new”
style diet. I am simply amazed that I do not crave any particular foods, especially sweets or breads, etc. I rarely feel hungry and feel satisfied with new eating choices, and this is very hard to believe as I was previously a “carb, sugar junkie”! Funny, this feels so complete and I no longer think about eating that next chip, lol!
I am feeling better now and have introduced “cell power” drops to unflorinated drinking water. Google it (or cellfood, two different products but basically the same) as it helps deliver oxygen to the cells, resulting in enhanced energy, this has really helped me!
Anyway, I have now lost around 12 lbs in the past 5 weeks, fitting in my “saved” clothing and feeling much better! Still there are down days once in a while, but dissolve and the next day is sunshine once again!
My question now is, it appears the “healthy fat” make me feel satisfied, not desiring sugar or bad starches? It is the only thing I can imagine that made this dramatic change in my diet.
Peace, love and light to all!!
