Hello all - Day 16!

(Ashley Freiheit) #1

Hi everyone, I’m on Day 16 of Keto and am completely new to the forum. I decided to try Keto for a couple reasons, and I’m so happy at the results already!! The below conditions have been improved already:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: I was used to tons of painful bloating and stomach distention to the point where I couldn’t wear the same pants in the evening that I could in the morning because they no longer fit. I have not had this issue at all since Day 1!

Acne: My skin looks better than it has in ages.

Acid Reflux: I haven’t had any heartburn!!

Non-Diabetic Reactive Hypoglycemia: I was nervous about this one, because I know that Keto lowers blood sugar. Surprisingly, I have not had one hypoglycemic episode since I started. Before Keto, I was used to having at least one severe episode a day.

The other condition I have, which will be hard to tell how this affects, is PCOS. Many women with PCOS are overweight and insulin resistant, and I am neither of those things. I’m not sure if it will help with the other symptoms, however (irregular periods, excess hair…).

I’m shocked at how much more energy I’ve had, as well. I’d be lying if I said that I have been a little bit frustrated since I’m on Day 16 and have only lost 2 pounds. I don’t have a lot to lose, so it isn’t a huge deal. My goal is a weight loss of about 15 pounds. I actually am in this cycle where I lose the 2 pounds, then gain them back, then lose them again…I’ve been limiting my calories to around 1600 and I’m not sure if that is too little. I work out regularly with running, biking, and using my rowing machine. It’s frustrating when my husband literally just starts eating a salad for lunch and loses 7 pounds in a week… but I’m sticking with this because I feel so great!! I do have quite a few temptations, though. I miss fruit like crazy. I am a HUGE fruit lover. I will still allow myself some cut up strawberries in yogurt in the morning, but I was used to having tons of fruit throughout the day. I also miss ice cream. It’s summer and it’s really tough to not go out for ice cream with the family. It is also tough getting used to eating so much fat. I feel like I’m being bad all the time.

I have the urine strips and have been in continual ketosis since about day 3, however I’m starting to get nervous because the strips have been showing trace or low levels for a couple days now. I’m not sure if that means I’m on my way out, or what.

Anyway - thanks for hearing my novel!!

Ashley

Welcome! I’m glad things are working so well for you. As for the PCOS, I read posts on these forums by women whose PCOS has been healed by their ketogenic diet, so there is hope you will experience the same. Good luck, and keep letting us know how you are doing.
