Hello Again

Hello, I am not new to keto, or to these forums. I was on Keto for several years and due to issues or events in my life I decided to go off Keto and the effects of leaving Keto for a regular diet were not great. I did gain my weight back but most of all the inflammation in my body came back.

So I decided to go back on Keto a month ago. Now I read sometimes once you go off it’s hard to get back your ketones it hard for the body to switch back. I will say I feel better because my high intensity energy is back. Although I been noticing that when my levels are higher I get headaches, so I eat some carbs a few, which sometimes helps.

Has anyone else experienced this? It’s like my body really taking well to going right back into burning fat, but maybe levels too high? The extreme focus is great but after hours of it my head starts hurting :unamused: am I needing more carbs? I did under 20 before without issue which now I’m on about 25. Is it maybe something else?

One cause of this might be lack of salt. Instead of eating more carbs, try eating a bit more salt, instead.

The mechanism is that elevated insulin interferes with the excretion of sodium, so when we drop insulin by cutting carbs, the kidneys return to excreting sodium at a faster, more normal rate. This is why Dr. Phinney advises a cup of salty bone broth once or twice during the day.

I’m not saying to go wild with the salt; it’s just that I find that when don’t put enough salt on my food, I often get a migraine or other headache the next day, and a pinch or two of salt is often enough to put an end to the headache.

That makes sense, I put a couple pinches of salt in my coffee every morning and late day I get the headache so I will try to put some more salt.

Headaches are usually salt related rather than carbs. Welcome back
