Heat Shock Proteins

Interesting article…I’d not heard the term “heat shock proteins” before.

I think I’d be inclined to include BOTH exercise and heat (either bath or sauna, though the former is more accessible), rather than replacing exercise with heat therapy.

Isn’t there a study on how 20mins in the sauna boosts HGH? Could this be what we’re looking at?

Not sure it’s the same study. Certainly I’ve read before about the benefits of sauna use in controlling diabetes and improving insulin response. This was the first I’d heard of “heat shock proteins” though, so I thought it interesting on that front.

May have to put an infrared sauna higher on my mancave list.

Alternate with ice cold showers - boom!

I’ve also heard that ice baths boost HGH

I love really hot baths. Preferably with a good book. I will use this to convince my husband that it’s not a waste of water (it’s a precious resource on an Australian farm)! Thanks!!

When I first read about heat shock proteins I was excited because my gym had a dry infrared sauna. So I’m merrily rocking the sauna X times per week … then I read about how infrared saunas expose you to harmful EMF radiation and should be avoided. :disappointed_relieved:

I need to find someone with a legit sweat tent!

Very hot baths are great but be careful when starting, especially if you have heart disease or diabetes. The first heavy snow each year triggers shoveling induced heart attacks and like exercise a hot bath improves health through stress.

I’ve been doing therapeutic hot baths nightly for 8 months, aiming for 15-20 minutes of 70+% max heart rate. In the first couple months my tolerance was low and blood pressure could crash rather abruptly. The ensuing dizziness could make exiting the tub challenging. Make sure you can get out.

I’ve experienced a dramatic improvement in health, though I started the baths about the same time I transitioned from low carb to keto along with other changes and it is hard to know how important each factor has been.
