Healthy Foods You Wish You Could Still Eat
You may be able to now or in the future depending on your individual carb tolerance and your willingness to pay attention when and how much often you eat these foods. YMMV
No wishing here. If I think a food is healthy for me I eat it. I don’t want foods I don’t think are healthy. Trouble mainly comes from foods I think are healthy in small quantities. But it’s pretty easy to find the ones I’m prone to over eat repeatedly. And those get added to the list that are unhealthy for me.
Nothing really. I only wish I could eat unhealthy stuff like carrot cake…unfortunately.
I still do eat some of those, IN SMALL AMOUNTS and INFREQUENTLY. I know what I’m eating when I do and am aware of the carbs involved.
For someone who is very strict keto, they wouldn’t eat any of them ever. For those who are able to be a little more liberal about root vegetables and fruits that are higher in carbs / sugars, it’s possible to fit some of those kinds of things in on occasion. It might also be more practical for those who burn a lot of energy through hard physical work or exercise as they’ll be more likely to actually burn those carbs / sugars right away as opposed to just storing more fat.
For me personally, I find it interesting that when I do have the occasional potato or sweet potato, I find that I am quite satisfied with way, way less of a portion than I would have been before going keto. Some might be practically the opposite and open up food cravings that will drive them nuts. I’m fortunate that a little satisfies me and then I’m back to more keto friendly stuff.
Climbergirl, there are a few keto friendly carrot cake recipes out there. I haven’t tried one yet but had a piece that a friend of mine made a month or so ago.
Fresh peaches! But, I won’t deprive myself of anything once I feel more comfortable with my carb tolerance.
Thanks. I think once I reach goal weight (not sure what that is…maybe like 155 so I’m just a few pounds off, but I need to stabilize there), I will work on perfecting a keto-friendly carrot cake recipe.
I eat all of those on occasion. If they fit in your carb count, go on with your self.
Ketoers are unnecessarily down on legumes, imho.
Oh, those can be wonderful!
In this particular area, the peaches were pretty much wiped out by late frosts so there were like none available locally. And that’s about what I think we’ve eaten this season, none.
But if there had been some available, I would have probably had a few. Something out of a can, um, no thanks, doesn’t really interest me. But if it were off of the tree and fully ripe… it’s a flavor like no other.
I wish I could eat potatoes all day every day. I love me some taters (maybe I should try me that pototo diet…haha). The only thing I really miss eating regularly is fruit…cherries, plums, nectarines and an obscene amount of strawberries.
If I want something I eat it, but I am more concious of my choices now.
Nothing beats right off the tree, fresh peaches! Canned peaches I can pass on…
Silver-lining (unless you’re a farmer), at least there were not heavy temptations.
Opinions may vary on whether or not it’s healthy, but I miss sushi more than any pasta or potato
Sashimi is just as good if not better. The white rice is just filler.
I also miss baby carrots, my go to diet food. Also lentils. Probably will add them back once I get to my goal weight.
Any type of root veg. Beetroot and parsnip especially. Cashews I could eat by the bucketload. Banana peanut butter toast sandwich.
Okay, I know I said peaches a few posts up, but my mouth seriously watered when I read this.
The thing I miss most is probably home made sour dough bread. I do miss that a lot. But I try not to think about it. Might even revive some sour dough starter I have in the cupboard and try making a bread with that and einkorn when I want to treat myself. At 18 net carbs per 1/4 cup for the flour, it would be a really special occasion to warrant doing all that, so probably never going to happen.
Someone mentioned cashews, nuts including cashews should be fine as long as your eating at your target level of carbs, just count them.
Dana, I would totally miss sushi too, but I’ve been making my own rolls and they do a great job of satisfying all my sushi cravings, plus lots of good fatty acids.
I usually make rolls with sushi-grade salmon, mashed avocado, and some shredded cucumber. I’m sure there are all kinds of keto friendly variations you could try.
It’s worse because my 12yo daughter shares my taste and eats one every day for breakfast!
