Having a few issues

Hey all

I’ve been reading a lot on the forums and have taken on board a fair few suggestions but seem to be struggling a fair bit.

About 3 weeks into the diet and watching my macros pretty closely, following 5% carb, 22% protien, 73% fat as calculated using the ruled.me calc and sticking to 20g net carbs.

Simply put I’m not feeling the fantastic effects that everyone is raving about. First couple of days felt amazing, followed by a week of feeling terrible, it’s now levelled out but I’m not feeling any better than when I was on a higher carb diet, certainly not experiencing any mental clarity if anything I’m a lot more grumpy and sensitive and feeling a little sleepy like I’ve just had a big carby lunch most of the time. I’ve lost a couple of pounds and while I would like to lose a few more the main goal is to increase energy and mental clarity.

I’ve tried the ketoaide but perhaps not quite as religiously as needed. Can anyone suggest anything that I could try to get this working for me. I really want to suss this out, 10 days out from a wedding and I really want to be in the right headspace it!

Thanks

Phil

Try ignoring your macros and eating fat to satiety. As long as you keep carbs low enough to keep your insulin secretion at a minimum, your body will be able to burn both the fat you eat and and the fat stored in your body.

What he said!

I never do macros and have been doing this for over 6 months.

I do 20g net carbs, 1 gram of protein per kilo of lean body mass (not really but I try to eat a moderate amount, I usually go over a little) and fat until I am 80% full. It sounds like you do not have much to lose and should be eating more.

potassium, magnesium, sodium and possibly calcium are important

Thanks guys, there’s so much information and recommendations out there that it gets confusing real quick!

Three weeks is still very early days, be patient with yourself.

It should take between 6 to 8 weeks to be fully “fat adapted” in optimum ketosis. hang in there. i also find that adding salt helps.

3 weeks in is still very early. Be patient. For me big changes started around week 5-6.

I agree, 3 weeks is early. I felt a huge mood upswing at about 6 weeks. I also had started drinking Bulletproof Coffee with Brain Octane instead of regular MCT or coconut oil. My big surge in energy was about 3 months in and I started exercising again at about 6 months. Now I don’t have the over the top euphoria, but maintain a pretty steady state of wellness. (Except for after my Panko Fish/Hershey Bar indiscretion where I felt very cranky with myself.) Patience, I know, ain’t it a bitch!

OK looks like the key is to stick with it for a while longer and let my body adapt. Thanks for all the feedback guys
