I’m about 2 and a half months in. I’m down just over 30lbs . I find I get in a self pity rut. I’m there now. I feel all around crappy and unmotivated. I’ve had a few off eating days lately. Not like my husband tho. I’ve ate chicken wing with sauce where he eat full double big mac meals. I’ve had a headache for a few days now and am sleepy all the time. I dont know if it’s working midnights or what it is but it sucks!
Hate the feeling of being defeated
Not to be “that guy”, but what’s your sodium intake look like? Feeling crappy, unmotivated, and having a headache is often a sign of an electrolyte imbalance. Upping your sodium might help.
I’ll be that guy too, look up the Keto Aid recipe. It’s a combo of sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
If your feeding your body glucose when your body is trying to become fat adapted (right there at 2 1/2 months) you are over stressing the body as it is trying to convert and you are confusing it. You might be experiencing a sugar hangover.
Maybe step back and focus on this… that’s AMAZING. It’s not always easy, and life happens. Taking “days” off this early in can knock you out pretty quick and that can make you feel like shit. Focus on what you’ve accomplished and, like others have said, make sure you’re getting your salt.
And know that every time you fall off you’re one meal away from being back on. And the days you do indulge you may just have to decide: you are gonna feel like crap and go for it or is it worth it when you feel soooo good?
Thank you all. And no worries about being “that guy” that’s what we are here for right?. Helping each other out . Salt … lol I hate salt. I use it when called for in recipes but never add extra. I do drink mio sport, the one with electrolytes. It’s a new day…happy vibes…
I, too, would try the salt. Personally, I now have a small container of pink salt in my car and in the office and I have a small pinch every now and then.
I wouldn’t say I’ve noticed huge changes but I think I do feel a little better with it.
Good luck to you.
Yeah your weight loss is incredible.
Another component to this that could help add perspective is to think about mood or the brain in the same category as a muscle or organ.
When we feel carb-hungover, we feel sluggish, achy etc. and can point to those symptoms and say, “these pains are symptomatic of the high-carb stuff I ate”.
What is more challenging is bringing our heads up from self-pity, defeatism, depression and pointing to THESE things and say, this is the mental equivalent of body aches.
This is where mustering some Heathy Detachment can help us immensely. Returning to a mental landscape where both our body AND or mind is an ongoing project that we are in the process of improving, doing some immediate actions to build momentum back toward ketosis, this can be the difference between adherence and prolonged relapse.
The great thing about keto is, when we do rebuild momentum and fall back into ketosis, the clarity component is a kind of self-perpetuating motivation (often times).
Now, I’m going to go take my own advice and stop preaching ;).
